UUCP Compass
October:  Living a Life of Forgiveness
FEATURED THIS WEEK
Variety Hour is Coming Soon
Thursday, October 16, at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary (following Community Night)
This is a low-key, all-ages forum to share something creative with the UUCP community, either by yourself or in a group - tell a joke, sing a song, act out a skit, recite a poem, draw a picture, do a dance, etc. It's like a talent show, but there's no talent required - just appreciation for everyone's offerings. Non-performers are welcome to attend and enjoy as well. There's no need to sign up in advance, but if you have any questions, please email Benjie Messer.
THIS SUNDAY AT 9:30 & 11:15 AM
October 5:  What Does it Mean to Forgive?
Service Leader: Rev. Linda Lawrence
"Forgiveness is a concept that everyone understands - until they're asked to define it." (from Amish Grace)  Honoring the importance of Yom Kippur in the Jewish tradition, we will explore the meaning of forgiveness and its importance to us as Unitarian Universalists.
New Day Center Meal Service
Sunday, October 5, at 5:15 PM at UMOM New Day Center
Live out the UU commitment to serving those in need by serving a meal to the residents of the UMOM New Day Center. Volunteers meet at the center at 5:15 PM and help feed a nutritious meal to the 150 parents and children who are living at New Day and rebuilding their lives. This is a great opportunity for singles, couples, families with children (age 8+) or interest groups here at UUCP to be of service, spend time with friends and make new ones. This is a one-time, two-hour commitment. Please email Janet Williams or call her at 602-291-0100.
NEXT SUNDAY AT 9:30 & 11:15 AM
October 12:  An Empowering Understanding of Forgiveness
Service Leader: Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
Can forgiveness be a path to greater freedom and health in one's life?  How do we understand and do the work of forgiveness in ways that strengthen our relationships with ourselves and others. How can our own mistakes and efforts to find forgiveness make us stronger?

UUCP Supports the Sanctuary Movement
UUCP has signed a declaration letter to President Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson requesting immediate relief and humanitarian protection for undocumented community members who are currently in sanctuary with faith communities. As part of this movement, the UUCP Board of Trustees has also signed on as a supporting congregation, which supports the work of other churches and synagogues providing sanctuary to individuals who are facing deportation. To learn more about this movement and read the declaration letter at the Sanctuary 2014 website.
Welcoming all in building religious community, called to
