THIS SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
August 3:  It's Not What You First Think
Service leader: Gary Ezzell
The stories we are told, and the stories that we tell ourselves, influence who we are. To change us, a story must turn away from the familiar into the unexpected. Today we will dip into a wisdom source we seldom visit, the New Testament, and see how the stories we call parables had elements that were unexpected to Jesus' listeners and challenged them (and now us) to imagine possibilities that seemed unthinkable.
World Travelers will Walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain this Week!

This week Kathryn Kosmider will share her recent adventure walking the Comino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage route in Spain. Our summer religious education program for youth K - 6th grade has included visits to countries all over the world including Ireland, Malaysia, Austria, and now Spain. This week, in addition to learning about Spain and this historic journey, the children will make Tarta de Santiago cookies decorated with powdered sugar. For more information, please email Anne Byrne, Director of Children's Ministries, or call her at 602-840-8400 x233.

New Day Meal Service
Live out the UU commitment to serving those in need by serving a meal to the residents of the UMOM New Day Center. Volunteers meet at the center at 5:00 PM and help feed a nutritious meal to the 150 parents and children who are living at New Day and rebuilding their lives. This is a great opportunity for singles, couples, families with children (age 8+) or interest groups here at UUCP to be of service, spend time with friends and make new ones. This is a one-time, two-hour commitment. Please email Michael Hipps or call him at 602-488-1188.
NEXT SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
August 10:  An Open-Source Tradition
Service Leader: Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
One of the strengths of Unitarian Universalism is that we claim many sources of our religious tradition. We don't take any of those sources in their entirety, but borrow wisdom and teachings and make them our own. In this way, we can think of ourselves as an open-source religion.

If you are interested in a brief tour of the UUCP campus and some introductory information about our congregation, please meet our Assistant Minister, Rev. Linda Lawrence, in the front lobby at 9:45 AM on Sunday, August 10.

Here on the pulse of this new day

You may have the grace to look up and out

And into your sister's eyes, into

Your brother's face, your country

And say simply

Very simply

With hope

Good morning.
