FEATURED THIS WEEK

Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project

"Florence Project," a way to assist unaccompanied immigrant children Some UUCP members/friends wish to help the unaccompanied immigrant children detained in Arizona. There is no public-defender system for migrants, but your tax-deductible donation can help provide life-saving legal assistance to these children. To donate, go to this link and click on the "Donate" button on the right side of the web page. Donations help with direct case costs ($350-$500 per child seeking a visa) associated legal costs and social services programs that give extra support to the most vulnerable.
THIS SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
July 20:  Seeking Truth
Service leader: Rev. Linda Lawrence
Is the answer, as the saying goes, always to question? When does the questioning ever stop -- or doesn't it? How do you know when or whether to be content with the truth you've found?
Travel to India with the World Travelers

Arrivederci Italy, we are off to India this week. Our summer religious education program for children includes visits to countries all over the world to sample local culture, food, crafts and art.  Last week was Italy, and now we visit India. Our tour guides  this week  are the Mother-Son duo of Marlene Tromp and Jacob Tromp-Chacko. In this class, the kids will explore Indian culture, people and foods.  We will touch on the landscape, animals, languages and religions in India through coloring pages and a slideshow. We will learn about Mehndi, which is a Vedic custom meant to "awaken the inner light," and practice Mehndi with real henna and (for our smaller children) temporary tattoos.

NEXT SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
July 27:  Bluegrass Gospel
Service leader: Anne Byrne, Director of Children's Ministries
Bluegrass music has its roots in the music brought to America by immigrants from Ireland, Scotland and England, as well as African American gospel music and blues. Characterized by acoustic string instruments and vocal harmonies, bluegrass gospel music is a distinctive form of praise to life after death and living a holy life in the here and now. Join the Heretics, a band of UUCP members (Anne Byrne, Bonnie and Dave Cunningham, Fred Garza and Dave Bellama) in honoring and celebrating bluegrass gospel at this music service.

Connie's Farewell Party

Saturday, July 26, at 4:00 PM
Our beloved choir director, Connie Jahrmarkt, is resigning at the end of July. Please join us in the sanctuary at 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 26, to thank and appreciate Connie for her sixteen years of wonderful service at UUCP! This farewell party is also a last chance for us to make music with Connie while she's working at UUCP, so bring your voices, your instruments and your ears. (And if you bring your appetite, we will have some refreshing snacks.)

As Connie leaves, one of the most important things we can do is honor and appreciate her fully. Many of you will do that individually, and the congregation will also be giving Connie a financial gift. If you would like to contribute to this gift, just write a tax deductible check to the congregation and note "for Connie" in the memo line. Please be in touch with Benjie Messer
if you have any questions about Connie's farewell party, and with Heidi Parmenter about contributing to the gift.

Addiction Discussion Group Time Change

The Addiction Discussion Group will meet at 6:00 PM on Saturday, July 26, to allow the group to attend Connie's Farewell Party.

This addictions support group meets to discuss various compulsive and addictive behaviors. We provide a safe haven to discuss how our week has been and to talk openly about our spiritual beliefs. It is designed for those with stable recovery (we ask for 6 months of sobriety.) For more information, call Gene at 480-361-9067.

A soul that longs for something is a soul that is growing - one way or another, smaller or larger. What have your longings done to your life and its horizons - broadened them or crippled them?
