July 13:  Called to Curiosity
clasped-hands-sky.jpg

Service Leader:  Donna Featherston
Einstein said: "Never lose a holy curiosity."  As UUs who affirm a free and responsible search for truth and meaning, you could say that we are a people called to curiosity.  But there's a reason for the saying "curiosity killed the cat"-curiosity can take us to difficult places and getting outside of our comfort zone can leave us feeling groundless. We'll contemplate developing a healthy curiosity and how curiosity can help us form vital connections with others.

Starting Point Tour
Sunday, July 13, at 9:45 AM
If you are interested in a brief tour of the UUCP campus and some introductory information about our congregation, please meet our Assistant Minister, Rev. Linda Lawrence, in the front lobby at 9:45 AM on Sunday, July 13.
Italy, Here We Come
waving-italian-flag.jpg

Following up on a visit to the good ole' USA last week, our World Travelers will head to Italy on Sunday.  Our summer religious education program for children includes visits to countries all over the world to sample local culture, food, crafts and art.  Our tour guide this week is Victoria Myers.  Victoria will share information about her family heritage and folk stories from Italy.  In addition, the kids will make their own pasta and learn a few words in Italian!  For more information or to volunteer to help out, email Noel Arring.

Share the Plate:  Circulo de Amigas
Circulo de Amigas is a non-profit organization based in California and dedicated to the advancement of young women, particularly through education, in Jinotega, Hondoras. UUCP has a long history of supporting Circulo, including sponsoring students, purchasing equipment and traveling to the center. Many of Circulo's founders and staff are UUs. Donations to Circulo go entirely toward the running of the center in Jinotega. All U.S. operations are staffed by volunteers.  Next Sunday, all undesignated offerings will be donated to Circulo de Amigas.
NEXT SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
July 20:  Seeking Truth
Service leader: Rev. Linda Lawrence
Is the answer, as the saying goes, always to question? When does the questioning ever stop -- or doesn't it? How do you know when or whether to be content with the truth you've found?

Connie's Farewell Party

Saturday, July 26, at 4:00 PM
Our beloved choir director, Connie Jahrmarkt, is resigning at the end of July. Please join us in the sanctuary at 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 26, to thank and appreciate Connie for her sixteen years of wonderful service at UUCP! This farewell party is also a last chance for us to make music with Connie while she's working at UUCP, so bring your voices, your instruments and your ears. (And if you bring your appetite, we will have some refreshing snacks.)

As Connie leaves, one of the most important things we can do is honor and appreciate her fully. Many of you will do that individually, and the congregation will also be giving Connie a financial gift. If you would like to contribute to this gift, just write a tax deductible check to the congregation and note "for Connie" in the memo line. Please be in touch with Benjie Messer
if you have any questions about Connie's farewell party, and with Heidi Parmenter about contributing to the gift.

We may fondly imagine that we are impartial seekers after truth, but with a few exceptions, to which I know that I don't belong, we are influenced -- and sometimes strongly -- by our personal bias; and we give our best thoughts to those ideas which we have to defend. -- August Krogh
