World Travelers Visit the USA

We have visited Egypt, Ireland, and Malaysia, and now, our World Travelers will visit our very own USA.  Our summer religious education program for children includes visits to countries all over the world to sample local culture, food, crafts and art.  Our tour guide this week is Director Anne. We will go back in time to consider the Declaration of Independence, sign on to our own declaration of beliefs, learn about Unitarians from history who helped shape this country, sample some iconic American food and make Statue of Liberty crowns and torches. For more information or to volunteer to help out, contact Noel Arring.
THIS SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
July 6:  The People, Yes!
Service leaders:  Rev. Linda and Gary Lawrence
Carl Sandburg's book-length poem was published in 1936 during the Great Depression. Written in the language of everyday people, its humor and themes resonate even today. On this Independence Day weekend, we use Sandburg's work to celebrate American perseverance in the face of hardship.

New Day Meal Service
Sunday, July 6, at 5:00 PM
Live out the UU commitment to serving those in need by serving a meal to the residents of the UMOM New Day Center. Volunteers meet at the center at 5:00 PM and help feed a nutritious meal to the 150 parents and children who are living at New Day and rebuilding their lives. This is a great opportunity for singles, couples, families with children (age 8+) or interest groups here at UUCP to be of service, spend time with friends and make new ones. This is a one-time, two-hour commitment. Please email Michael Hipps or call him at 602-488-1188.
NEXT SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
July 13:  Called to Curiosity

Service Leader:  Donna Featherston
Einstein said: "Never lose a holy curiosity."  As UUs who affirm a free and responsible search for truth and meaning, you could say that we are a people called to curiosity.  But there's a reason for the saying "curiosity killed the cat"-curiosity can take us to difficult places and getting outside of our comfort zone can leave us feeling groundless. We'll contemplate developing a healthy curiosity and how curiosity can help us form vital connections with others.

Share the Plate:  Circulo de Amigas
Circulo de Amigas is a non-profit organization based in California and dedicated to the advancement of young women, particularly through education, in Jinotega, Hondoras. UUCP has a long history of supporting Circulo, including sponsoring students, purchasing equipment and traveling to the center. Many of Circulo's founders and staff are UUs. Donations to Circulo go entirely toward the running of the center in Jinotega. All U.S. operations are staffed by volunteers.  Next Sunday, all undesignated offerings will be donated to Circulo de Amigas.

We may fondly imagine that we are impartial seekers after truth, but with a few exceptions, to which I know that I don't belong, we are influenced -- and sometimes strongly -- by our personal bias; and we give our best thoughts to those ideas which we have to defend. -- August Krogh
