FEATURED THIS WEEK
Congregational Meeting on June 1
Notice for All Members - the Annual Meeting of the UUCP will be Sunday, June 1, at 11:45 AM (immediately following service).  We will elect new members to the Board of Trustees, the UU Foundation Board and the Nominating Committee and vote on the budget for next year.  There will also be a financial presentation and strategic implementation update.
THIS SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
May 25:  Reconciling Dignity with the Reality of War:  A Memorial Day Reflection
Service Leader:  Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
One definition of dignity is the quality of being worthy of honor or respect.  On Memorial Day, we honor and pay respect to our military service personnel, especially those who have given their lives in service to this country.  But how do we understand the inherent worth and dignity of all people in the face of the perpetuation of war and violence, cruelty, even evil that persists among humanity?
NEXT SUNDAY AT 10:30 AM
June 1:  Welcome Opens Doors
Service Leader:  Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray        Living a life of welcome is about curiosity, and a willingness to see what is easy to ignore.  When we live a life of welcome, we make room to live in the complexity and difficulty of life and its changes, challenges and injustices.  How can this spirit of welcome invite us closer to connecting and impacting our world?
New Day Center Meal Service
Sunday, June 1, at 5:00 PM
Live out the UU commitment to serving those in need by serving a meal to the residents of the UMOM New Day Center.  Volunteers meet at the center at 5:00 PM and help feed a nutritious meal to the 150 parents and children who are living at New Day and rebuilding their lives.  This is a great opportunity for singles, couples, families with children (age 8+) or interest groups here at UUCP to be of service, spend time with friends and make new ones.  This is a one-time, two-hour commitment.  Please email Michael Hipps or call him at 602-488-1188.

Featured Group:  Poetry Coffeehouse
First Sundays at 9:00 AM in Annex C
Poetry Coffeehouse is a forum for congregation members and friends who write and or enjoy poetry.  On the first Sunday of each month we meet in room C of the annex at 9:00 AM.   Our purpose is to read, en-courage and appreciate poets and other writers. It is a small group ranging from 4 to 8 in attendance.  Once a year we publish a journal, Poikėlos, which means many colors in Greek, and celebrates the wonderful variety of writing by members and friends of the congregation. Included are poetry, fiction, essays, and any form of creative writing.  Contact Tish Gauntt 602 992-1563 or email Ann Bixel.
Open Arts and Crafts Studio
Most Wednesdays at 9:30 AM in the Johnson Room
The open arts studio is now Open Arts and Crafts Studio.  It now welcomes any craft that does not disturb the quiet time when other artists and craftsmen/women are engaged in personal creative efforts.  Making a scrap book, macrame, pen and ink drawings, making greeting cards etc. in the company of others can be very rewarding.  We meet at 9:30 AM almost every Wednesday, have a cup of coffee, socialize and then create until noon.  Currently only four have been regularly present.  We would like to have at least four more participants.  If interested, just drop in after making sure that we are not closed due to another event in the Johnson room.  For more information, email Jay Alagia or call him at 602-952-8889.
