Trending: Gender Diversity

Themes on gender diversity and equality made a lot of headlines this month and not just in finance.  In the first half of May the topic has been tackled by lawyers, accountants, the U.S. Air Force Academy, UAE hospitals, and the world of science fiction. Morgan Stanley led the charge in the financial services sector, 
issuing a report on it's new proprietary gender-diversity framework here:

Despite the fact that science fiction as a genre was literally invented by a woman - aka Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein - women have often been marginalized in the world of science fiction, both as fans and as creators. Women and their work often fail to garner the same recognition as their male peers when it comes to science fiction and other forms of speculative fiction.

This article primarily focuses on ethnic diversity although gender is addressed. "...conversations with several female cadets seemed to indicate more of an issue with gender discrimination than with overt racism. Crook said male cadets respect her as an equal "for the most part," but she's fielded negative comments about the fact that the athletic standards for women are different than for men.

Gender diversity in UAE hospitals

Gender diversity is very important in the nursing profession, which requires taking into consideration the cultural demands of all patients. In the UAE, as in other parts of the world, the majority of nursing staff are women. In the UAE, male nurses make up less than 8 percent of the overall nursing total. The number is growing, and that's healthy, but how do we encourage more men into the profession?
