Teens & Money: Practical Lessons for Smart Money Skills

Money mistakes can follow a teen through college and into their adult lives, so handling money, credit, and debt wisely is a key skill for parents to teach their kids. Join us for this free, informative session with Karen Childs, Credit Union Development Educator, of the Washington State Employees Credit Union as she helps parents learn to teach their kids to be money smart.

Principal Chris Bede will open the session with a Parent Wolf Chat, where parents will have the opportunity to ask questions about the "State of the School Yard." Join us Wednesday, February 18, at 7 pm in the Eastlake Theater. Brought to you by EHS PTSA.

Cast a Vote for Graduation Venues

LWSD is in the process of determining the high school graduation venue for the Eastlake, Lake Washington and Redmond High School graduation ceremonies for the graduating classes of 2016-18. As part of the process of determining a graduation site, we are asking for your input via the survey link below. The survey will close on February 27. Once we receive your feedback, we will review and collate the data with our high school principals in order to make our final decision. Our goal is to communicate this decision to our community by the end of May 2015. To participate, Click on this link. Thank you for your input!

PTSA Membership - It's Not Too Late!

Are you new to Eastlake High School? Were you spinning in circles at the beginning of the school year?  Did you mean to join the PTSA but can't remember whether or not you actually signed up? Did you just plain forget? We are running a new membership drive this month and, as part of the membership campaign, hope to include any individuals that we may have missed the first time around. To join the EHS PTSA, please sign up online or fill out this form and turn it into the office with your check. If you are unsure whether or not you have joined the PTSA, please contact Valerie Westmoreland

Help us Reach our Fundraising Goals

Thank you to those who have donated to our annual fundraiser this year. Our goal is $19,000 and we're almost there! Grants to our teachers, clubs, teams, and community to enhance the experiences of our students are a primary beneficiary of your dollars. Your donation is tax deductible and may qualify for corporate matching, too! If you weren't able to donate last fall or just forgot, click here to donate online. For more details on our grants and donation procedures or contact information, just click on this link.

Curious about Washington State Education Legislation?

The 2015 Legislative Session is under way. Nearly 200 bills related to education have been dropped (entered into the system and assigned a number). That's a lot by any standard. Here's a list of those dropped so far. The easiest way to keep track of education related bills is to check in regularly with that link (from League of Education Voters). If you want more play-by-play updates you should follow the #waleg hashtag on Twitter or sign up for Legislative updates from the House and Senate education committees. You can do that here. Contact EHS PTSA Legislative Chair, Kerri Nielsen, for more info.

Angels Update

Thank you to everyone who purchased pajamas or sent a donation in for Eastlake Angels.  We really appreciate the support of the community.  The Eastlake Angels program has been officially kicked off with the start of the second semester.  Our goal was to raise $2,000 and we ended up with $1,500.  Eastlake Angels relies 100% on donations.  If you would like to help out, any contribution helps - $5, $10...it all adds up.  Donations may be made by clicking here or by mailing in a contribution to the EHS PTSA - please write Eastlake Angels on the memo line (400 228th Avenue NE, Sammamish 98074). Eastlake Angels directly helps students whose families are experiencing financial hardship.  We are not replacing agencies, we are simply trying to make their lives a little easier. Teenagers just want to fit in. Questions - please contact [email protected].

Looking for a Student Representative

Each year the Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) Student Steering Committee elects a student representative to serve a two-year term on the State Board of Education (SBE). The student representatives not only listen and observe, but also provide meaningful input on issues regarding educational policy in Washington State. In this capacity the representatives are also members of the AWSL Student Steering Committee.  Applications are Due February 24, 2015.  More information here
