The Colona Chamber of Commerce members will meet Tuesday, September 10 at 12:15 pm.  The meeting is being hosted by Hair I Am Salon and will be held at the Colona United Methodist Church, 1709 Cleveland Road. Appointments will be made to the Budget and Nominating Committees.  The new Colona Chamber website will also be shown to members.  Please RSVP by Friday, September 6 by noon so that lunch arrangements can be made.  Members are welcome to come at noon to eat lunch.

Local Businesses Recognized for Their Support 
Car Show Recognizes John Durbin, The Body Shop
Rich Holman, Car Show Committee Chair, recognizes John Durbin of The Body Shop for his sponsorship of the event.

At the August 26 City Council meeting, organizers of the Freedom Celebration and Car Show recognized and thanked local businesses and individuals who sponsored and supported these two events. The Colona Car Show Committee presented plaques to Ken and Teresa Werner, Werner Restoration Services; John Durbin, The Body Shop; Dale Hillman, The Best Upholstery Shop; Mark Sides, Green Rock Colona American Legion; and long-time Car Show organizers Ivan Walters and Bob King. The committee also thanked Boy Scout Troop #312 for their assistance and presented them with a donation. Businesses that were also recognized for their contributions to the Car Show were Tennant Truck Lines, BJ's Gas, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Walmart.

 

Cheri Powell, Chair of the Freedom Celebration Committee, presented plaques to longtime organizers of the event, Virginia and John Barber; Denise Lack and Ted Timbrook of the Colona Memorial Day Parade Committee and Mayor Rick Lack on behalf of the City of Colona for sponsoring the fireworks every year. Ray Kutzman was also recognized, but not present. 

Port Byron State Bank Publishes Cookbook in Honor of 150th Anniversary

Port Byron State Bank
is celebrating their 150th anniversary this year and has created a cookbook to honor the milestone.  Recipes were collected from employees, customers and community members.  There are almost 200 recipes including appetizers, beverages, soups, salads, vegetables, side dishes, main dishes, breads, rolls, desserts, cookies and candy.  Copies are available at all PBSB branches (Colona, Coal Valley and Port Byron) for $8. Proceeds from the cookbook will be donated to Project NOW.
Lavender Crest Winery Sponsors Midwest Wine Sampler
2013 Midwest Wine Sampler Event

Lavender Crest Winery will host a Midwest Wine Sampler event on Saturday, October 26 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.  Wines from Michigan, Indiana and Illinois will be featured that evening. Appetizers will be prepared by Chef Kelly.  The event is limited to 100 reservations.  If paid in advance, the cost is only $15 per person; $20 per person if paid at the door. For reservations, call 309-949-2565.  If you are a member of the Lavender Crest E-Wine Club, let them know to receive the discounted price.  Lavender Crest Winery is located at 5401 US Hwy 6 in Colona.

Shop Colona 2013 Map Arriving in September
2010 Shop Colona Map The 2013 Shop Colona map, published by the Colona Chamber of Commerce, should be available at participating businesses by mid-September.  Chamber businesses also provide welcome bags to new homeowner residents.  The Shop Colona campaign began in 2010 to encourage residents, businesses and organizations to think first about choosing a Colona supplier or retailer when needing to make a purchase.
