Governor Susana Martinez Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor and Mourning of Albuquerque Police Officer John Kelly
Santa Fe, NM - Governor Susana Martinez has issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, April 2, 2015 in honor and mourning of Albuquerque Police Officer John Kelly.
The full text of the Governor's executive order is below:
EXECUTIVE ORDER 2015-005 FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF IN HONOR AND MOURNING OF ALBUQUERQUE POLICE OFFICER JOHN KELLY
WHEREAS, On Thursday, March 26, 2015, Albuquerque Police Officer John Kelly died in the line of duty;
WHEREAS, Officer Kelly was participating in a police training exercise when he suddenly collapsed;
WHEREAS, Officer Kelly served his country in the United States Army;
WHEREAS, After his service overseas in Afghanistan, Officer Kelly began a distinguished career in civilian law enforcement with the Albuquerque Police Department, both as a detective and a field training officer;
WHEREAS, Officer Kelly's passing underscores the danger that our police officers face each and every day, and the impact it has on their loved ones;
WHEREAS, Officer Kelly is survived by his wife, three children, and three step-children; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Susana Martinez, Governor of the State of New Mexico, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the State of New Mexico, do hereby order that all flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, April 2, 2015, the day Officer Kelly is laid to rest. The thoughts and prayers of the people of New Mexico go out to Officer Kelly's loved ones in gratitude for his service and in mourning for their loss.
