AGING SUCCESSFULLY  -  NOT GRACEFULLY

Jules Renard said "It's not how old you are, it's how you are old".

Dermatologists tell us that only 20 to 30 percent of skin aging is genetically determined.

DID YOU KNOW?:

One out of 5 people is over 65, and potentially over 1 million are centenarians.  And 6000 people turn 65 every day!  In only a few years from now it will be 10,000.  In 2029 over 70 million will be over 65 and by 2050 80 million will be on Medicare.  Most of these people here are Baby Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964.  Apparently more babies were born then than at any other time in history.  Baby Boomers make up 40% of the population and control 80% of personal financial assets and more than half of all consumers spending.

You may not be a Centenarian or a Baby Boomer but you are aging. Since ONLY 20 to 30 percent of skin aging is genetically determined there are things that are making us look and feel older than we should.  So how do you want to be OLD?  That tells me that there are things that are making us look and feel older than we should.  So how do you want to be OLD?

Aging successfully means avoiding a few 'S' words literally!  Keep reading my upcoming newsletters to find out what is making you OLD. I call it the "S-Factor" on aging.

I've always thought aging gracefully was just a way of saying that this is the way it is so get over it.  Well, the Institute On Aging and the Bible for that matter says we are supposed to live successfully for 120 years, why aren't we?  Because those darn 'S' words are destroying our chances.

Let's live like we love it and BE young and healthy while we are doing it!  AGE SUCCESSFULLY!

BABY BOOMER DISEASE -
SARCOPENIA - "S-FACTOR" #1

STAY FIT AND HEALTHY

Number 5 on the New Years' Resolution List this year is 'Stay Fit & Healthy'!!  This is one of my favorite topics.  I guess now that I am closer to 70 than 60, I see what happens to people my age that have not stayed in shape.

BABY BOOMER DISEASE

We just came back from Cabo and there were so many boomers there on walkers, overweight, out of shape, and even breathing oxygen.  For many of them SARCOPENIA had set in.  What is this?  It is the loss of muscle mass and function.

Generally you lose 3% to 5% every decade, and by the age of 70, you could lose 1/3 of your body muscle mass.  It doesn't vanish; it turns to fat and has no ability to provide muscle function preventing the elderly from performing the most basic tasks of daily living, not to mention the risk of falls and other accidents.  Sarcopenia leads to wiggly arms, a mushy waist and back, a pot belly, stringy thighs, and the sagging junk in the trunk.

GET A MOVE ON

People, wake up!  Find a sport like Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, Swimming, or Gymming.  Ok I made that up!  Join Anytime Fitness or one of the other smaller Gyms and go treading or eliptacling.  Ok I made that up too.  This is the new sport, going to the gym and gymming. I don't know what your age is, but it is never too late to start moving, stretching, bending, walking, dancing, lifting, twisting, and jumping.  Did you know that regular exercise also gives you 40% less likely chance of heart attack, stroke, and sudden death?  Try to spend 10 minutes every day and 30 minutes a couple times a week doing something that works every muscle in your body.  Use small dumb bells for arms and upper body.  Once in shape get ankle weights for walking or cleaning the house to keep legs in shape.

So if you do something different each day, by the end of the week you have worked from head to toe.

OTHER PREVENTATIVES

1:  Because hormonal factors can signigicantly affect muscle mass, all adults should undergo annual blood testing to track their hormone levels.  Deficiencies in the growth hormone, DHEA, and testosterone can be addressed with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

2:  Several nutrients, including Creatine, Vitamin D, and Whey Protein, have shown great promise in combating sarcopenia.  Also, to promote a healthy muscle mass, you will need Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Carnitine Compounds, and the Amino Acid Glutamine.

3:  An inadequate intake of calories or protein can cause sarcopenia.  Protein is very important, but as we age many develop an inability to synthesize protein and also a low-level acidosis.  To prevent this, discover food combining.  Pair proteins with vegetables and fruits only, never with starches.  Pair starches with vegetables only, but avoid refined carbs, cereals, sugars, and most grains.  Say 'no' to donuts, pancakes, pies, pops, punches, and cakes (which mean you'll have to just visit at those church socials, not eat!)  Avoid bacon and pork because it's too hard to digest.

DOES SARCOPENIA AFFECT YOUR FACE?

Well of course it does.  You have muscles in your face that holds it in place.  That is where the Non-Surgical Facelift Machine and Protocol can help.  This procedure retrains muscles through muscle stimulation.  It lifts the neck, brows, and jowls for amazing results.  Call us today to learn more or just make an appointment and look younger in a few short weeks!!!
