EIGHT FITNESS FOODS
I was reading Dr. Mercolas' website and he had a few great suggestions on what to eat during, before, or after working out. Amazing, I use all of them, so I gave you a few recipe's and suggestions on how to easily incorporate into your healthy lifestyle!! Healthy food can be yummy, just read and see!!
AVOCADOS - My favorite food on the planet is avocado. They are rich in monounsaturated fat that burns easily for energy during workouts. Also being high in potassium, they help balance your potassium to sodium ratio. Another bonus is that they are low in fructose. Fast food at its best! Cut in half without peeling and take out seed. Squeeze lemon juice over each. Add Himalayen Salt and pepper and scoop out with a spoon and eat. Goooood!
COCONUT OIL - This stuff is amazing! It is the richest source of healthy medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). This is a powerful source of instant energy because your body sends MCFAs directly to your liver to use as energy. MCFAs promote weight loss and improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. Cook a couple (free-range chicken) eggs in coconut oil and enjoy before a workout.
ORGANIC EGGS - This brings me to another great food to provide protein for workouts. Your body prefers protein over carbs for longer lasting energy. Of course protein is essential to building, maintaining, and repairing your body tissues including muscles! Soft boiled with Himalayen salt is quick and easy.
WILD CAUGHT ALASKAN SALMON - Always purchase 'wild caught' and preferably from Alaska to ensure it is sourced with quality omega 3 fats (EPA & DHA). Salmon is a great source for high quality protein, astaxanthin, and other nutrients essential for fitness. I love it grilled on an oak plank topped with lots of fresh herbs like parsley, garlic, rosemary, thyme, green onion tops minced, and fresh dill!
ORGANIC FREE-RANGE CHICKEN - These birds are a great source of protein and essential amino acids for muscle growth and maintenance. To effectively enhance insulin sensitivity after aerobic exercise, eat protein not carbs! Eat a spinach salad topped with chicken 30 to 45 minutes post workout!!
WHEY PROTEIN - For many whey protein is the gold standard of protein. Easily consumed before or after exercise especially strength or resistance training. Make a smoothie with whey protein, almond or coconut milk, and a banana (a higher glycemic or fast released carb) for rapid absorption.
ASTAXANTHIN - You'll be hearing a lot about this nutrient in the future. It increases strength and stamina, decreases post-exertion recovery time, and decreases soreness after physical activity. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant!!! Eat more salmon!!!
SO GET OFF THAT COUCH AND START MOVING AND EAT RIGHT FOR MAXIMUM RESULTS!
