2013 Hair & Makeup Trends

Here are a few runway hair and makeup trends to look forward to this year!

1. BLUE EYE SHADOW/LINER - Think aqua, cobalt or navy. Can anyone say everything that goes around comes around again? The 80's are back girls, my favorite makeup and hair time!! Fabulous liners from pencils to felt tip pens to blue mineral madness shadows are all the rage. Does it work for everyone? Sorry, no it doesn't. These colors work best on brunettes with brown eyes or blondes, brunettes, and redheads with blue eyes. They can look a little garish on everyone else, but that may just be a trendy thing and you don't care - It's not for me and my green eyes though! I'll pass on this trend.

2. WHITE NAILS - Keep your nails short and sassy. Slightly rounded works better than square. I will probably just go for white tips, like a French manicure or paint my toenails white. But for all those with beautiful skin on your hands, go for the white! It's no longer third place.

3. HEAD SCARVES - Love this look. What's old is new again. The 60's are back. Try them on before you buy. Check your profile. This 'look' may not be for you when you see how your nose, chin, and jawline appear. If you make it past the profile screening, wear it tight and keep your ears tucked in. Make sure the color is one that will compliment your skin tone or otherwise the turban will over power your face or emphasize flaws (like dark circles or blotches). Coordinate your makeup with the scarf colors to enhance the synergy.

4. RED LIPS - I'm excited about this one. Can anyone here we go again? Looks like the 50's. Strong brows, little eye makeup, and bold red lips. Make sure your brows are waxed, arched, and shaded in to balance the boldness of the red lips. Here is how to pick the perfect shade: Blue reds work for almond, olive, and pink skin tones; orange reds work great on yellow, fair, and gold skin tones. If you are not sure, get a professional color analysis from a licensed image consultant (not a neighbor who sells makeup). Wearing red lip liners define the lip shape to correct any imperfections and hold the color in place. Let's get ready to take this red hot trend from the runways to the office corridors now!

5. HAIR KNOTS & LOOPS - We're going from braids to buns, from undone and messy to elegant and neat at the nape of the neck. Hair must be blow dried straight with products to build in sheen. If a center part is not your cup of tea, this trend may not work for you. Hair is smooth, shiny, and slicked back to the nape to fashion a single knot shaped into a bun or twisted into a banded ring, or tucked into a beautiful chignon. A short forehead, pretty nose, and small ears are essential to pull this off. Think Petticoat Junction to Knob Hill darling!
