THE VANNER BANNER March 2016
Official newsletter of the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society

New Website Launched
Early this year, the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society launched a new website design with a fresh look and navigation system.  The site was designed to adapt to all monitor sizes including tablets and mobile devices.

GVHS Members are entitled to post sales horses, stallions at stud and related tack or other items for sale in the Classifieds section of the site at no charge.   We do limit sales postings to two per category at any given time. Send your information by email to the GVHS Office and we will try to get the ad posted within 5 business days.

For only $10 a year, GVHS Members can subscribe to the ONLINE REGISTRY DATABASE.   This fully searchable database includes the opportunity for owners to add up to six photos of each horse, to research potential breeding horses and their pedigree and to search for horses by gender, location, color and other attributes.   We encourage all members to take advantage of this valuable tool.   Members who attended the 2016 GVHS Annual Meeting receive a complimentary subscription for 2016.   If you require assistance adding photos of your horses, please contact the GVHS Office and we'll be happy to assist.
March 18th Evaluations in Burbank, CA

There is still time to REGISTER for Evaluations to be held THIS FRIDAY, March 18th at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA.

The Evaluations will commence at 8:15 am with a short seminar by the GVHS Evaluators to explain the process, the points within the Evaluation scoresheet and answer any questions owners and handlers may have in advance of the Evaluations.

The Gypsy Vanner Horse Evaluation Program has been developed as an educational tool for the horse breeder, to promote thoughtful breeding of Gypsy Vanner Horses of the type as detailed in the breed standard, and for the public to educate them about the breed.   The program's purpose is to help breeders and owners to educate themselves about the strengths and weaknesses of their horses so they can use this knowledge in making educated breeding and purchasing decisions.

This system should be viewed as an important tool to help preserve the wonderful characteristics of the Gypsy Vanner Horse.  The conformation-movement evaluation is also an integral part of the GVHS Registration process.    Horses lacking DNA verification of both sire and dam require a certain minimum conformation-movement evaluation score to move from the GVHS Pre-Studbook into the Regular Studbook.

These Evaluations are being held in cooperation with the California Gypsy Horse Club  and their annual Southern California breed show.

Clononeen Tumbleweed-
GVHS' First Hall of Fame Stallion

Introducing the first GVHS Hall of Fame Stallion, Clononeen Tumbleweed, owned by Dale & Cheryl Nygaard of  North Fork Gypsy Cobs.

A Gypsy Vanner stallion or mare can qualify for this honor, based on recognition of the quality of its offspring through the GVHS Evaluation system. This is not a subjectively appointed status.

GVHS HALL of FAME status must be earned!

To do so the horse must have offspring that are evaluated in the GVHS Evaluation program. These offspring must be Evaluated in Conformation/Movement and in Performance.
* A Hall of Fame Stallion must have 5 offspring that have received a Gold Medallion of Quality.
* A Hall of Fame Mare must have 3 offspring that have received a Gold Medallion of Quality.

Dale & Cheryl will be awarded with a framed CUSTOM 16 x 20" PASTEL PORTRAIT of CLONONEEN TUMBLEWEED by EQUINE ARTIST, LISA STOCKDELL. Thank you to Lisa Stockdell who has graciously donated her talent, time and materials to help the GVHS recognize this achievement.

Visit the GVHS Facebook page for photos and more information about Tumbleweed's five qualifying offspring!
