The Celtic Culture Alliance invited the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society to show and promote the Gypsy Vanner Breed at their annual festival held at the Quad Cities Centennial Park in Davenport, Iowa on September 20th, 2014. GVHS member ambassadors were Mary Shipman and Rita Ostrom. A great day was enjoyed by crowds of visitors attending the festival. Rita held a coloring contest for the children with the top three winners awarded gift baskets. The Vanner magazine was handed out to horse enthusiasts along with GVHS brochures helping to provide a brief education of the breed. The festival attendees were treated to western and English riding by Rita with trainer Derek Maynard riding Nightster, Baxter and Sizzle. Most festival folks had never seen a Gypsy Vanner horse in the flesh and the horses amazed everyone with their beauty, calmness and athleticism. Little kids, even adults were given the opportunity to sit atop a real live Gypsy Vanner horse! Plus there was sheep dog herding, Celts in kilts and the Headless Horseman along with a Celtic Princess pageant which Rita helped judge. Mary and Rita spoke with many of the festival visitors about the rich history and traits of the breed.
The GVHS extends a special "Thank You" to all the members who show and promote their wonderful breed to the public at fairs, festivals, expos, shows and parades. For information about display and handout items such as the GVHS banner, brochures and The Vanner magazine contact information is located on the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society website along with a sponsorship form for events requesting sponsorship from the GVHS.

Central Alberta Gypsy Vanner Horse Show
A motivated group of Alberta Gypsy Vanner owners, led by Stephanie Clark, decided in June (of THIS year!) that it was time to organize a Gypsy Vanner Show, educational seminars and GVHS Evaluations. Within a few short months, the team pulled together the venue and resources along with many special 'extras' for their event which ran from September 26-28, 2014 at the Horse in Hand Ranch in Blackfalds, AB.
GVHS Judge Marvin Britt and clinician, Felicia Britt travelled from the southeast US while GVHS Evaluators Dave Ayers and Grace Greenlee came from New York and North Carolina respectively. Additionally, GVHS Executive Director, Katherine Mutti, travelled from Ontario to attend this inaugural event. Over three days, with approximately 30 Gypsy Vanner horses in attendance, the owners and their helpers were educated through the Evaluations and clinics and then had the opportunity (the first time showing for many!) to show their horses, and their equestrian skills in the ring. Congratulations and thank you to the Show Committee and all of the owners who supported this event! Planning is already in the works for an even bigger event in 2015.

9th Annual Feathered Horse Fall Classic, Perry GA
Beautiful Fall weather and the usual fun GA State Fair atmosphere accompanied this years feathered horse fall classic in Perry GA! The bleachers were filled with spectators cheering on our beloved Gypsy Vanners all three days of the show and the barn was full of visitors admiring our beautiful horses that came to show from all corners of the country! One of the show highlights was the TEXMAX Fiesta Barn Party on Wednesday night where all competitors enjoyed a fun time eating, drinking and even dancing in the barn isles!

DON'T FENCE ME IN!
When a Vanner stallion kicks up its heels and runs across a pasture, it all but calls out, with class, presence and style,
"Hey! Look at me! I am special. I can do anything.
Don't fence me in!"
The
GVHS is pleased to announce availability of this new Gypsy Vanner figurine
(A portion of all sales go towards the GVHS.)
