EQUINE AFFAIRE 2014

The weather gave us a break during the Equine Affaire this year in Columbus, Ohio.  The crowds came out, April 10th - 13th,  to see the Gypsy Vanner Horses and all the other activities during this annual event.   There was a lot of interest in the breed at the breed booth and crowds gathered to view the Gypsy Vanner breed demos.

The stallion, Segway (pictured above) ridden by Andi Farmer and owned by Shady Spring Stables, Troy, Ohio and stallion
Bell Bottom Cool Dud ridden by CJ Baker, owned by Gypsy Magic Farm, Mapleton, Illinois strutted their stuff, while the lovely mares Stoke the Fire owned by KD Farms of Belle Center, Ohio and Chloe's First Dance, ridden by Libby Zoldak and owned by Shady Spring Stables, showed them how it was done in the breed demos.

Thank you to all the owners and their helpers, riders and handlers for representing the organization and the breed so well!!!

Special thanks to Kelly Searson for doing a youth presentation about Gypsy Vanners in the youth pavilion.  The Gypsy Vanner stallion Taskin was also on display in his stall in the youth pavilion area, representing the breed as a Breyer Model horse.

HOOSIER HORSE FAIR -

Do you remember how you first heard about the Gypsy Vanner Horse?

Do you remember the first one you actually saw?  Where was it?  When was it?  Was it on the roadside in England?  Was it at a horse show?  Was it maybe at an Expo?

Very likely it was at an Expo, just like "Bill" was the very first Gypsy Vanner to be shown to the United States at an Expo in Kentucky.

There are a number of GVHS members around the country who are now volunteering their time and horses to show others this wonderful breed.

I would like to say that I carefully planned the scenario I am about to describe, but in reality it was blind luck.

Mark Barrett made a four minute loop video for those of us out and about on the Expo circuit and being bored one evening, I posted it on my Facebook page with a notation that the video would be available for viewing at the Hoosier Horse Fair along with a real live Gypsy Vanner horse.

The first thing that to occur was that the video was a "mini viral" happening.  Horse lovers started sharing it with their horse loving friends and pretty soon there were close to 80,000 shares.

Some people who came by the GVHS booth commented that they had traveled to Indianapolis specifically to see a Gypsy Vanner horse!

I would encourage you to get your Vanner out there and let people see him or her.  This really is a special breed, and everyone reacts to it as if they have just had a very magical experience.

- 2014 Evaluations -

The Gypsy Vanner Horse Evaluation Program has been developed as an educational tool for the horse breeder, to promote thoughtful breeding of Gypsy Vanner Horses of the type as detailed in the breed standard, and for the public to educate them about the breed.

The program's purpose is to help breeders and owners to educate themselves about the strengths and weaknesses of their horses so they can use this knowledge in making educated breeding and purchasing decisions.

This system should be viewed as an important tool to help preserve the wonderful characteristics of the Gypsy Vanner Horse.

The EVALUATIONS in Williamston, Michigan are taking place on the 31st of MAY
