TELUS Battle of the Breeds- TEAM GYPSY VANNER!!
Congratulations Team Gypsy Vanner!!

For the first time in the history of the TELUS Battle of the Breeds, Spruce Meadows the Gypsy Vanner breed was represented this year amongst those competing for the 'Breed' Title.

With the Team Entry sponsored by the GVHS, under the training and preparation of Jackie Johnson and the significant support of North Fork Gypsy Cobs, the Vanner horses Clononeen Tullamore Dew, Rolling Thunder Bailey, Clononeen Bliss and North Fork Orion, along with their riders/drivers competed and made the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society very proud!

Following the event, Team Leader Jackie Johnson reported, "The Battle of the Breeds had exceptional competition this year and with many competitors being 30 year veterans there is little room for inexperience. The job of team Gypsy Vanner was to showcase their sound minds, versatility and potential for athl...eticism and they did that in spades. Many spectators were heard to admire the Gypsy Vanners ability to act safely under extreme pressure. The team definitely surprised the crowd by showing that yes, they CAN jump, and a top placing in compulsory riding, under western tack, is surely a first for Spruce Meadows.

Unfortunately, the team had to scratch Rollin Thunder Bailey after she slipped on wet grass on day 2 and cut her shoulder requiring stitches. Although Bailey will be fine, the loss of her contribution to precision driving and trail scores, so early in the competition, was not something team Gypsy Vanner could recover from and a 12th place rank was inevitable.

Now that horses and riders have dipped their toes into the Battle of the Breeds, their sights are already on next years competition, and the goal is always to win!!  AND Team Gypsy Vanner has been invited back to compete again next year!!

  VANNER FAIR 2013!!

With 55 Registered GVHS horses participating in various events over the weekend, this was quite possibly the largest gathering of GVHS horses at a single event ever!!  There was representation from farms as far away as North Carolina, Minnesota along with Ohio, Michigan and throughout Ontario.   The horses ranged in age from a fews weeks old and up!...and we had an outstanding YOUTH presence at the Fair.  The weekend's schedule featured a showcase of sales horses, show events, demonstrations of jumping, log hauling, western, the Vanner Girls "drill team" and the highlight of weekend, the TEAM CHALLENGE!  Despite a heavy downpour that lasted over a full day, the large indoor venue allowed the show to go on!   Vanner Fair thanks all attendees and the committee is already discussing further improvements to make Vanner Fair 2015 even bigger and better!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS YEAR's BEST-in-FAIR WINNER, N'Co Gypsy Vanners' Westmoreland Lottery Roulette and RESERVE WINNER Latcho's Banner of DeerFields Stables!!
