The Presidents Corner
Dear Vanner Lovers:
This month of April begins my favorite time of the year. One of my favorite mares, Rackli, gave birth to a beautiful filly last week. There were no problems, only joy. The excitement of finding that new born and everything going right was real happiness for me. Pam named her Easter Lily which seems to fit her. We have three more mares that are due to foal this summer and I am looking forward to each one of them with great excitement.
The first horse I have ever owned was a Gypsy Vanner which we purchased in 2004 and my life has changed a lot over the past nine years. I hope every one of you has the same great passion for this breed that I have.
I can safely say that every one of the members of your Board of Directors for the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society has that passion and we are all committed to preserving our breed for future generations to enjoy. We have great things planned for your organization and I am asking you to contact any one of us if you can help us grow and secure our breed.
Have a wonderful spring and get out and enjoy your Vanners.

23rd Annual South Dakota State Horse Fair |
This was the first year that Gypsy Vanners were represented. May Day Acres attended with three horses, to imported mares Saoirse and Juliet and Indigo Flash a 2011 colt bred by May Day Acres who is for sale. We took part in the breed and stallion demonstrations, riding engilsh, western and ground driving the young colt in order to show the versatility of the bred. We also gave carriage driving demonstrations at the event with our wonderful mare Saoirse. Video of the event and our demonstrations will be available online. The event went very well, we distributed literature from the GVHS and got lots of wonderful feed back about the beauty and temperament of the breed.

FAIRY TALE IN MOTION |
You know the feeling you get when you make it to the very top of a roller coaster and it starts to descend down at a ground breaking speed? Your stomach flip flops and drops, your feet and hands tingle and your adrenaline spikes and you feel lightheaded. Well, I wasn't sitting on a roller coaster that day, I was in the blue seats of the equine arena at the Harrisburg Horse World Expo Feb 21-24, 2013 and the announcer just introduced my farm and hit play on the soundtrack to my stallion Clononeen Dun Bodee's "barn name", (registered as Princely Inheritance) routine, but the feeling was the same. It seems no matter how many Expos and Demos we have participated in, the feeling is always the same. There are moments that you wish you could capture in a jar like fire flies, and keep, to live them over and over again. This was one of them for me. I watched my daughter enter the arena on Bodee and start to perform. We had choreographed it together. By the time the last song played they had the entire audience clapping in time to the music exactly as we had planned, She pushed Bodee out of his rocking horse lope into a speeding run for one last loop around the arena, she put her reins down and lifted both arms into the air to wave goodbye to a very enthusiastic audience. It looked as though he could fly when she spread her arms in the air. He was the feather and she was the wings, and it really was a Fairytale In Motion. Congress Hill Farms was there for the stallion avenue demonstrations that weekend. Bodee had a stall in the exhibit hall, and he never tired of people gathering around his stall admiring him. He is a natural ham for attention which quickly made him a favorite on the showroom floor. The public interest in the Gypsy Vanner breed was overwhelming after his performances and our little 10 x 10 booth seemed inadequate. Not only were we there for the stallion avenue demo's but we also take pride in being an ambassador for our beloved breed. With all the time, work, endless hours of practice, lessons, bathes, bottles of detangler, and grooming products it's funny how it all started because of the Breyer Horse, The Gypsy King catching my eye. It inspired this whirl wind of gypsy vannerdom into my life |
