Members: The GVHS had a great February 2013 Annual Meeting in Vegas. Congratulations to all the high point show winners for 2012. And thank you to all that took your Vanners off the farm to shows, Parades, Trails and more last year. Special thanks to Barb Snyder, Kathy and Dennis Mutti for organizing and working the meeting and Friday night hospitality suite. Extra Special Mention to Joyce Christian, David Riedel, Jane Howard, Megan Rose, Felecia & Marvin Britt and Jamie & Katie Sharp for all the preparation and
sharing of valuable information to our membership.

What's coming: The GVHS is growing in membership and registered horses. In an effort to continue to improve our society we have a lot of continuing education and marketing programs planned for 2013.

1)      The beginning of an on line Stud Book and pedigree search

2)      Three or Four Vanner Evaluations ( we are looking for volunteers)

3)      An Annual Yearbook Publication full of educational material and farm ads

4)      Development of regional shows and awards sponsored by the GVHS

5)      A membership survey that is designed to plan the direction of the GVHS

6)      Continued financial support of Horse shows and Exhibitions in both the USA and Canada

If You have a local show that the GVHS can have classes added to; we want to help. Please contact Barb Snyder with the information and we will work to try to increase the quality and quantity of your show opportunities.

We are hoping many of you will be able to take advantage of the upcoming educational seminar on May 3-5, 2013 in FL. Mr. Wayne Hipsley will be the instructor and many experienced horse judges and evaluators will be there.

As always; The GVHS needs volunteers to help with all the shows, promotions, and educational events planned for 2013 and 2014. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE

GVHS.

Regional chapters of the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society

The GVHS has been steadily growing and now is the time to put more focus on Regions. Regional chapters of the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society will benefit everyone by drawing together owners and breeders in geographical regions to promote the breed and help each other, as well as new owners. This process will include developing show and expo opportunities within regions, as well as awards programs within the region, with the support and guidance provided by the parent organization. There are currently regions identified in the GVHS bylaws that may not make sense now that the organization has grown and spread out with more horses, owners and opportunities in more areas. The first step is to get one or more volunteers from the current regions to help review and identify if the regions need to be revised and determine what those will be. Then this committee of "region leaders" can help develop the overall program. If you would b! e interested in helping develop this region plan and help get focus on your region, contact the GVHS office at 888-520-9777 or email [email protected]

Members And Their Horses Enjoying The Shows
Thanks Tim & Jodi Knecht
Stoney Creek Farm and their stallion Rom Rye.

Rom Rye
rom rye 2
Rye's first show this year was the "Nature Coast" HDT held in January 2013 at Black Prong Equestrian Center in Morriston Florida. This HDT was a three day event. Day one was dressage: at the end of day one Rye is in 6th place out of 14. At this point he had been in training only 20 days with trainer Bob Giles at Winterhill Driving Center! (He already knew how to drive, but had never trained for this type of event)
Day two was marathon with obstacles, formerly known as Hazards. Rye was very anxious to get on the marathon route (and so was Tim)! Not only was it Ryes 1st hazard competition, but also Tim's first time as a navigator!...not even a practice run for Tim! We started today in 6th place, but have dropped to 8th after marathon today. Rye gave it his all & did spectacular, but was competing against horses that have been training for years... & him only 20 days of training! That would be like me leaving my office chair to run the NY marathon! LOL. Proud of you Rye! you gave it your all, ran till the end & would have kept going if we asked you to! Good Boy!
Day three was the Cones course. Rye loved this event! He has awesome work ethic & puts his heart in all he does! He started this event still a bit tired from the grueling hazard course yesterday but never hesitated when asked to perform his job. The Object is to run the course in numerical order & in a pre-determined time. Each cone is set 6" wide than the carriage wheels & has a ball on top. You cannot hit a cone or knock of any balls. He made his time, & only knocked down 3 balls out of 40. I was hoping for a little better but for a first show it was an awesome job. Those 3 balls cost us 3 points each & bumped us to 9th place in the final standings. 9th out of 14 competitors in the preliminary division. ( Rye should have been entered in "training level" but we entered him in the next level up which is "Preliminary", since his trainer was driving & he has competed at world cup level, he doesn't think it's right that "he" enters training level & drives against beginner drivers. A bigger challenge for Rye, but much fairer for the other drivers.)
Our 2nd show was The Grand Oaks Classic, held Feb 15, 16, & 17th at The Grand Oaks Resort in Weirsdale Florida. This was a three day pleasure show. Sharyn Knecht was the Whip for this show. We placed 3rd out 14 in our division, single pony, & 8th out of 38 in lady drivers division
