The Canadian Gypsy Vanner Horse Club
                           Annual Meeting

The Canadian Gypsy Vanner Horse Club gathered at DeerFields Stables for its Annual Meeting on January 26, 2013 with a record attendance of 28 people for the meeting, seminars and dinner. DeerField's trainer and barn manager, Shannon Hanley, led a seminar reviewing a progression of 'gymnastics' exercises designed to introduce Gypsy Vanner horses to jumping. Horsemanship trainer, Ron Chauvin, discussed and demonstrated the elements of horsemanship to achieve willing communication between horse and rider. During the meeting, members reflected on the successes and challenges of 2012 events, in order to put together plans and assign responsibilities for 2013 events. These include further GVHS Evaluations, a Gypsy Vanner show to be held in conjunction with Lindsay All About Horses, May 25-26, 2013, displays and demos at Saskatchewan Equine Expo, Can Am Equine Emporium, Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and possibly others. Of course, the highlight of 2013 will be VANNER FAIR, and Jim Wilson and the Advisory Committee introduced the new venue, some new plans to enhance education and sales, and encouraged new ideas and feedback from all members. We encourage fellow Vanner owners from the U.S. to consider joining us for this year's Evaluations, Show and VANNER FAIR!

The GHVS Implements New Awards for 2013!

Recognizing the roots of the Gypsy Vanner as a driving horse, arrangements are being finalized for the implementation of a special award to recognize the GYPSY VANNER DRIVING HORSE of the YEAR!! The Gypsy Vanner Horse Society is a Breed Partner with the American Driving Society and a qualification and points system is being developed to tally accomplishments at both GVHS approved shows and at ADS shows throughout the year.
