GVHS Canadian Evaluations a Success

We had 15 farms, 46 people, and 25 Gypsy Vanner Horses congregate at Circle Four near Erin, Ontario this weekend to complete a total of 28 GVHS Evaluations. These were conducted by David Riedel, David Ayers and administered by Kim and Mandy Kramer of Willow Wind Stables. The Sunday schedule filled quickly so our Evaluators started at 4pm on Saturday and finished 6 evaluations that afternoon. With an early 7:30am start on Sunday, we completed the remaining evaluations by about 3:30 Sunday afternoon.

We think that we may have broken some 'age' records at these Evaluations. 11- year old Hayley Martin of Sonview Gypsy Ranch may well be the youngest participant in a GVHS Evaluation to date as she rode their mare, Hazel, in an English Pleasure Evaluation. At the other end of the spectrum we had Poppy Black, just shy of 80 years old, handling her mare, Belle, for a Conformation-Movement evaluation!

Many brought their young horses out for a Conformation/Movement evaluation to get a better idea of their potential. Some owners brought horses that have no DNA verification of parentage. These horses required an acceptable score on their Conformation/Movement evaluation in order to move into the regular Gypsy Vanner Studbook.  Finally, several horses that are current or potential breeding horses were evaluated for Conformation/Movement. This is a valuable tool for breeders to identify specific weaknesses in their breeding horse so that they can thoughtfully match with a horse strong in those areas when planning their breeding.

The Performance Evaluations covered all disciplines, Western Pleasure, English Pleasure and Driving. An Evaluation of over 70 percent in a discipline combined with a Conformation/Movement evaluation score above 70 qualifies a horse to receive a Gold Medallion of Quality in that particular discipline. It appears from the smiles on some participants' faces, that there will be some new Gold Medallion horses from these evaluations. A further distinction can be achieved, the Versatility Medallion of Honor, when a horse achieves a Gold Medallion of Quality in all three disciplines. While no horse has yet been awarded this honor, it appears that there are a few in Ontario who could be potential candidates in the future!

MARE POWER !

Congratulations to the two ! high point horses of the day at the recent GVHS evaluations in Ontario. Gypsy's Dream of Rosie owned by Rita & Steve Cardy was the high point horse of the day for conformation and movement, but only 1/4 point behind her was Dan Norman's mare Miss Smarties. There were also three mares who achieved the Gold Medallion of Honor. This is awarded to a horse that has a conformation/movement score of 70 or higher AND a score of 70 or higher in a performance discipline. WCF RK Sashay, owner Kathy Mutti, and Gypsy's Dream of Rosie, owner Steve & Rita Cardy both earned the Gold Medallion of Honor under saddle - english, and Tonka's Girl, owner Judy Campanaro earned the Gold Medallion of Honor under saddle western.

ANNUAL MEETING 2013

Be sure to mark your calendar for the last weekend in Feb for the GVHS Annual meeting in Las Vegas.  Pam Litz has been in charge of the auction every year, but would like to find someone to take that over.  So if you are interested in this position please email  info@gypsyvannerhorsesociety.org

Gypsy Vanner *A Grooms Dream*

Mr. Bikers Conners N'Co. was spotted on Face Book by a Groom to be. He fell in love with the breeds exotic look and just had to have one at his reception for photos and standing at the door welcoming all their guest. The reception was held at the Yacht Club on Catawba Island in Ohio. N'Co. Gypsy Vanners were pleased to make the Grooms dream come true.

HERD REDUCTION SALE

TUMBLEWEED
We have maded the recent decision to simplify our lives due to a variety of events, not the least of which was Dales heart attack last March.  We have built a herd we are very proud of, both for bloodlines and true quality.  Each horse was carefully chosen to produce the very best of the best, and represent this lovely breed to you, our friends, family, clients and fellow breeders.  Our goal has really also been to reach out to individuals and families that would benefit from the special relationship that develops between a person and their horse.  This has led us to simplify our lives, promote the breed on a much smaller scale, and have more time for fun.  As a result we are downsizing our herd and our property.   We will be accepting offers on any of the horses listed on our sales pages.  Although we are highly motivated to consider all offers, we are not being driven by financial difficulty or time contraint.  Our core stallions, being of considerable value, would allow us to consider creative proposals in having any of them join your breeding program.  We are open to discussion of your ideas.  It has been a very tough decision, but we do hope you enjoy "shopping" our very treasured herd.
