Kidney Function Tests
Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine are waste products in the blood that are used to evaluation kidney function. Kidney function is already considerably impaired by the time these values rise.
Screens for BUN and creatinine are done via the blood profile. Generally speaking, the normal range for BUN is up to 25 mg/100 ml, and the normal range for creatinine is up to 1.7 mg/100 ml. |

Life Plans
On Sept. 12th the NAIC adopted changes to the AG38 guideline that affects reserve requirements for secondary products, ie: guaranteed UL and SUL, with an effective date of January 1st. As a result, many carriers will be taking current products off the market and introducing new, replacement products with higher costs. Simply put, prices are going up! A consumer interested in guaranteed UL should get their coverage underwritten and inforce prior to year end. Below are links to announcements from carriers noting their deadline dates and transition rules:
Lincoln National seems to be the exception. At this time they do not anticipate a price increase, which will make their products ultra competitive after January 1st!
On another note, we have temporarily removed Protective Life's term and UL plans from our spreadsheet quote engine due to delays and service issues in the underwriting, new business and agent licensing departments. We hope they get the problems resolved quickly, at which time we'll put them back on the quote engine. In the meantime, if you'd like a Protective quote, please just let us know.

Sales Tip - Prospecting & Referrals
A great way to turn a prospect into a customer for life is by reviewing their existing policies (and investment accounts) to make sure the beneficiaries are up-to-date and proper. Done incorrectly, beneficiary designations can create chaos, confusion and legal battles. By educating yourself and becoming an expert, you can be a hero, cementing relationships for future business & great referrals.
Common mistakes include simple designations such as "spouse" or "children", or listing the names of children instead of using per stirpes wording, listing creditors instead of using a collateral assignment, listing "estate" temporarily but failing to go back and change it later, failing to list contingent beneficiaries, failure to use an irrevocable trust for large estates (be sure to avoid the three year incidents of ownership rule), and naming impaired persons, or minors, as beneficiaries.
Beneficiary designations should be reviewed every 1 - 3 years. Click here for a dynamite Beneficiary Designation Reference Guide. Study it and become the expert that your clients will refer to others. |
