Start School Ready
Start School Ready kicked off on Monday, July 7 at Maplewood Early Childhood Center.  The intensive pre-kindergarten pilot project of Ready for School and Holland Public Schools is off to a great start.  This six week pilot focuses on the individual learning of each child in the program as well as parent engagement in his/her learning. Early literacy skills, social and emotional readiness are the focus with additional emphasis on healthy eating and exercise.

Holland Public Schools Superintendent, Brian Davis, had this to say about the pilot project, "the more quality interventions that we can provide students prior to attending kindergarten the more likely students will enter ready to learn."

Start School Ready runs Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. through August 15th. The classes are instructed by bilingual Spanish/English teachers and a healthy breakfast and lunch are provided daily.

Ready for School is still accepting applications from parents and caregivers interested in their child(ren) attending. Click here for information.

Start School Ready is being made possible through the support of the PNC Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
Ready Set Talk

Last summer, we introduced a new pilot project called Ready Set Talk driven by the data from our Healthy Beginnings program and health care partnerships. Resource referrals from our health care partners were overwhelming for speech therapy, however, the resources in the community were not able to meet the demands.

This year to ensure optimal accessibility for parents and families and stewardship of funds Ready Set Talk is being offered in concert with Start School Ready.  In addition to referrals, all children in the Start School Ready program are being screened for speech and language delays.  All students will have access to the speech resources if the need is identified.

Ready Set Talk is being made possible through the support of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation.
