Getting to know Ross Murray
Diaconal Ministers are a relatively small group of rostered leaders that strive to be witnesses to the church and world in a position other than the traditional role of pastor. We recently sat down with Ross Murray, the newest diaconal minister called to our synod, to learn just how he bridges both the secular and religious in his position at GLAAD. Learn more about his background and work in the most recent News Feature.
ELCAvotes Through the simple act of casting an informed vote, we have the opportunity and responsibility to help make decisions that will affect our lives and the lives of our families. As our Christian faith compels us to attend to the world through the lens of our relationship to God and to one another, ELCAvotes encourages voter participation, civic engagement, and advocacy around voter rights. As we approach the New York Presidential Primary Election on April 19, you can share the ELCAvotes webpage to encourage voting and participation, find resources to become an advocate for those left out of the voting process, and engage with others about the intersections between our faith and elections.

As part of the strategic plan, the Sent Committee highlights ministries and partnerships proclaiming the Gospel while responding to societal needs.
Feed My Sheep It is 11:00 AM on a cold windy Saturday and there is a knock on the door. The door swings open and a procession of hungry people of various ages walk into the dining area; some with weary and tired expressions, and some with grateful smiles. They have been waiting outside Trinity, Wyandanch to come inside for a warm meal, some friendly conversation, and hear the Word of God. One in seven households in the US will experience food insecurity at some point during the year, an issue that is even more acute in Wyandanch. Pasta and the Word ministry was created during Pr. Robert Ranis' pastorate to supplement the Monday through Friday Soup Kitchen run by The Mercy Inn operating from Trinity. Volunteers provide a warm meal for 70-80 people on Saturday and a take-home meal for Sunday. The meal is preceded by prayer and sharing of the Word, to help people feel a connection with each other, and develop a sense of identity as a community of God. This ministry is supported by a partnership between Lutheran congregations and local secular organizations: Trinity, Wyandanch; Ascension, Deer Park; Abiding Presence, Fort Salonga; Phoenix House; PSE&G LI; and a local Boy Scout Troop. Call 631-643-8454 for more information or to make a donation.
