 40 Days of Giving Lift up the life-changing work of ELCA World Hunger through new levels of giving--spiritually, intellectually, and financially--starting with Lent. Beginning Sunday, February 7, and extending through the season of Lent, congregations across the ELCA will join together to raise $2 million to benefit the ministries of ELCA World Hunger. St. Olaf Band
The St. Olaf Band, dubbed "one of America's preeminent bands" by The New Yorker, will perform in New York City as part of its upcoming national tour. The concert will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 8 p.m. at Carnegie Hall. The St. Olaf Band is the oldest music organization at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, a campus internationally renowned for its high caliber of musical ensembles. Be still and know
This is a retreat led by the Lutheran Youth Organization of the Metropolitan New York Synod for confirmation aged youth. Teens will explore the theme verse and the idea of praise through large and small group sessions. The cost is $120/person, which includes room, board, programming and T-shirt. Rite of Ordination: Carol Schneider
Everyone is invited to the synodical celebration of Holy Communion with the Rite of Ordination, taking place on Saturday, January 16 at 3:00pm at Saint Peter's, Manhattan. Carol Schneider, recently called as chaplain to Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola will be ordained. The Rev. Amandus Derr will preach. All rostered ministers of the synod are invited to vest and process.
Rite of Ordination: Jonathan Pryer
Everyone is invited to the synodical celebration of Holy Communion with the Rite of Ordination, taking place on Sunday, January 17 at 3:00pm at St. Paul's, East Northport where Jonathan Pryer, recently called as associate pastor, will be ordained and installed. Jonathan Pryer will preside and the Rev. Harry Schenkel will preach. All rostered ministers of the synod are invited to vest and process. The color of the day is red.
 Confronting Racism: A Holy Yearning ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton and William B. Horne II, an ELCA member from Clearwater, FL, will continue their conversation on racism - a violation of God's intention for humanity - in another live webcast January 14, 2016, at 9 pm (EST). Eaton and Horne will be joined by other ELCA members who bring various perspectives on the U.S. criminal justice system. Learn more here.
Global Lutheranism
All are invited to attend a seminar sponsored by the Diakonia Program, "Global Lutheranism: Learning from Lutherans Around the World." This seminar will have multiple speakers that will enlighten you on what it is to be Lutheran in places such as Guyana, India, Slovakia, Tanzania, El Salvador & Zambia. Learn more here.

Pr. Becca Seely will be installed as pastor of Lutheran Ministries in Higher Education on January 31 at Gustavus Adolphus, Manhattan.
Pr. Wolfgang Laudert was installed as pastor of Christ, Staten Island on January 9.
Mark Kiesel has resigned from the roster of the ELCA, effective December 30.
