The joy of stewardship

"I'm finding out ways to present stewardship to our congregation, new ways to think about stewardship--the joy of it," said Sue Boccio from St. Andrew's, Smithtown after attending the recent Practical Stewardship seminar. Watch video testimonies here. If you missed Dr. Philip Krey's lectures given at the April 25 workshop, they are now available free online. All five lectures can help you strengthen your congregation's ministry of stewardship. Watch the stewardship lectures here. This event was funded in part by our synod's Leadership Development Grants. Thank you to event organizer Pastor John Krahn and to host church Ascension, Deer Park!

We are church together

This Friday and Saturday, we will be gathering as the church to pray, talk, listen, learn, and walk together. In preparation for our Synod Assembly, read the Bulletin of Reports to see what has happened in the past year. Find out what the staff has been working on, see reports from each conference, and view the ministries of our many committees and synod partners. There's exciting work being done, and we do it all together in Christ. Download Section B of the Bulletin of Reports here. For all financial information, including congregational partnership reports and the budget, download Section C. Assembly participants are encouraged to prepare by downloading Section A of the Bulletin of Reports: Welcome, Agenda, and Voting Materials. We are church together, even if you are not able to be at the Westchester Marriott. Follow what's happening on the MNYS Facebook page. You can find complete Synod Assembly information on the assembly webpage.

Business Matters

Hudson Conference completes parochial reports

Congratulations to the Hudson Conference for being the second conference to get all of their parochial reports in (following the Tappan Zee Conference)! We are still welcoming 2014 annual congregational reports. Six conferences are missing only one congregational report. Will your conference be next?

Our Wider Church

Exploring Faith Online Courses
Wartburg Seminary is launching a new opportunity for continuing education for rostered leaders and individuals in congregations. Building on the core belief that theological education and formation are for the whole church, Wartburg is creating new ways for all the baptized--of all vocations and from all locations--to access theological education. One of the newest elements  is the Exploring Faith Online Courses that will begin in June: 5-week and 8-week online courses designed for individuals wishing to explore matters of faith and theology at a deeper level or advanced courses for rostered leaders or those who have studied theology before. Learn more here.
From Our Committees

Apply for a Domestic Hunger Grant
ELCA Domestic Hunger Grants support ministries that offer hope and assistance to many thousands of people who experience poverty and hunger in the United States. These grants do more than just give food to people who are hungry--in addition to immediate relief programs, the grants fund projects in community development and community-based organizing and advocacy that strengthen the foundations of communities impacted by hunger and poverty. In the past, grants to projects on our synod's territory have totaled nearly $30,000. The domestic hunger grant application is now available and will close on July 10. Learn more and access the application here.
