Grandparent caregiver receives emergency assistance
BELMONT COUNTY - When planning for her future, Nancy had never imagined that at 79-years-old she would be widowed and caring for her two great-granddaughters alone. Her story, however, is not unlike many of the nearly 40,000 grandparent caregivers in Ohio.

Community Action works to promote 2-1-1 service
ASHTABULA COUNTY - (By: Justin Dennis, Source: Star Beacon) More and more area officials are asking what the 2-1-1 hotline can do for their agencies and those they serve, Community Action representatives said Friday. The 2-1-1 number points those in need toward more than 200 social service agencies and their almost 600 assistance programs.

Galion students help stock shelves at Community Action Commission
CRAWFORD COUNTY - (Chris Stone, Crawford Source) Galion City School District staff members are leading their students by example through community service of their own.
The staff participated in a food drive to support the Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission in Galion during a full day in-service Jan. 13.

The food drive was organized by the district's Food Services Department. February is recognized as Canned Food Month, and the goal was to help offset the cost of providing weekend backpack meals to Galion students... Read more
