The purpose of unemployment insurance is to stabilize our economy and alleviate personal hardship stemming from involuntary job loss. Unemployment benefits are earned by employment and job loss through no fault of the worker. The state unemployment compensation fund needs to be solvent in order to ensure this critical poverty-prevention tool remains intact. OACAA supports a long-term and balanced approach to solvency that protects all of Ohio's workers. That said, many working families in Ohio are not making enough to consistently afford basic expenses. Senior living complex right on target
LAWRENCE COUNTY - In about a year ,there should be a new independent senior living community in the eastern end of the county.

That's when Proctor's Landing, a 56-unit independent senior living community, is expected to open.

"Everything was approved," said Ralph Kline, assistant executive director of Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization. "We are finalizing all the plans for submission of the state building permits. We are looking at closing in the month of March." Read more
Walmart grant will expand HAPCAP food storage space
HOCKING, ATHENS & PERRY COUNTIES - Local WalMart representatives presented a $30,000 grant on Wednesday, Jan. 13, to Hocking, Athens, Perry Community Action in support of the agency's efforts to fight hunger in Southeastern Ohio. According to a press release, the grant will help HAPCAP expand its food bank's freezer and cooler space in order to provide more nutritious fresh... Read more
