SELF Wins National Photo Contest!
Congratulations to Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (SELF), the Community Action Agency in Butler County for winning ToolBank USA's Tool Up America Before & After Photo Contest for photos taken during their annual Group Workcamps project. The photo depicts work done for Jacki to install a wheelchair ramp. Her wheelchair ramp provided freedom after years of being confined in her home in a wheelchair. Jacki not only has gained independence, but a peace of mind that she can exit her home safely in an emergency.

Ohio VETS Pilot Project Yields Successful Results

 

Ohio VETS Logo The Ohio Vocation, Education, Training and Services (VETS) pilot project administered by the Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies and funded by the Ohio Development Services Agency has concluded with successful results. The pilot project was instituted at six Community Action Agencies throughout the state and offered education and training to assist veterans in finding meaningful employment at a living wage, and provided them and their families with other supportive services to help them attain self-sufficiency.

Governor's Office Partners with Community Action to Distribute Coats to At-Risk Kids

  

On October 31, Gov. John R. Kasich signed an executive order authorizing the expenditure of $100,000 in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds. The Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives will use the funds to partner with Operation Warm and Community Action Agencies to provide 3,125 new winter coats to at-risk children in Montgomery, Jackson, Vinton and Pike Counties.

The 2014 Winter Legislative Conference is scheduled for January 29-31 at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square and registration is now open! The conference will be filled with opportunities to share ideas, attend educational workshops and meet with legislators.

LEADS Community Action Hosts Grand Reopening for Remodeled Senior Living Property

   

LEADS Community Action Agency has been offering affordable housing solutions throughout Ohio since 1990. To date they have developed 38 affordable housing projects in 21 counties with a total of 1,309 apartments and single family homes. Recently they were able to provide extensive rehabilitation to Windsor Height Apartments, a 25 unit senior living property, thanks to funding through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency 2010 Housing Tax Credit Program.
