Past, Present and Future
By Leslie Wieser, President

Leslie, Jim, Karen, and Amber
As I reflect on national and world events of 2015, I am grateful for all of the wonderful things happening at Companion Parrots Re-homed. Most important, 48 birds have found new homes, year-to-date. That's 48 new beginnings and 48 happy endings that we are so proud and happy to share! None of this could have happened without the hard work of the team of CPR volunteers and the staff of Parrot University.

Our volunteer program has grown by leaps and bounds this year. We've gone from a handful of dedicated volunteers to an armful. CPR appreciates the contribution of every volunteer, whether they've volunteered for an hour or for 100 hours. In addition, CPR is delighted that Jim Alexander is now coordinating the on-site volunteer program.

And speaking of Parrot University staff, CPR would like to recognize the magnificent contributions of its former Store Manager, Lea Waller, and its current Store Manager, Amber Rosintoski. Both of these women have worked endless hours that contributed to the success of CPR and Parrot University.

While we relish in the fact that 48 birds have found new homes this year, we have a number of birds that have been long-term residents for quite some time and who require additional financial resources. Those birds are featured in CPR's Bird Sponsorship program that was launched this year. While the program has generated success so far, continued support is needed. If you are interested in sponsoring one of these special birds, please click here to learn more.

In 2016, both CPR and Parrot University will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary. With only one third of small businesses surviving for 10 years, we have a lot to celebrate and we hope that you will celebrate with us as we reach this important milestone.

Finally, as the number of parrots needing new homes continues to swell, the challenge of re-homing parrots is increasing for CPR and for similar organizations. Finding and educating enough adoptive homes is a never-ending task. You can help us meet this challenge by supporting us financially, through volunteer efforts and by helping to promote the organization and its mission.

With sincere appreciation from the CPR Board, the staff of Parrot University and all of the birds of Companion Parrots Re-homed, we extend our very best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season.

Meet Davey: Featured Bird
cockatiel
Davey, Cockatiel

Species: Cockatiel

Age: 8 years

Davey is an eight year old, male Cockatiel. Due to his past history, he's untrusting of hands, so he is looking for someone who will simply enjoy his company. Davey will want to be with you as much as possible. He loves being out of his cage and will serenade you with beautiful melodies or show off his dance moves. Davey likes other Cockatiels but would also be happy being the center of attention. Please help us find a home for this sweet guy. Watch Davey's video

Meet Cricket: Featured Bird
conure
Cricket, Sunday Conure

Species: Sunday Conure

Age: 19 years

Her name is Cricket but she really should be named 'True-hearted'. She's a 19 year old Sunday Conure (hybrid between Sun and Jenday Conure) who is looking for someone to appreciate her for all that she has to offer. Cricket will be your loving and faithful companion, whether singing along to music (rather noisily) or nuzzled up on your shoulder while you read the newspaper in the morning. At CPR, she can be found with her favorite volunteer, Ed, riding around on his shoulder while he talks to people about CPR's work and mission. Come meet this girl. Watch Cricket's video.

Meet Jack & Jill: Featured Birds
Jack & Jill, Blue and Gold Macaws

Species: Blue & Gold Macaws

Age: 30-40 years

Jack & Jill are two Blue & Gold Macaws that are in their thirties. They have very different personalities but make a sweet couple. Jill is the more outgoing of the two and is always willing to come down first to take a treat. Jack loves showers and flaps his wings in the breeze while Jill runs away. The one thing they agree upon, is always being with each other. They are a devoted and bonded pair that must be adopted together. Both birds will step up for their trainer now, but they insist on doing it simultaneously! Please help Jack and Jill find that special home. Watch Jack & Jill's video

Holiday Parrot Tree
Holiday Parrot Tree
Be a caring Santa to your favorite homeless parrot this year! Just visit the Holiday Parrot Tree at Parrot University, from now until December 30 and choose a parrot ornament.

The ornament you select could include a gift for your favorite CPR parrot or supplies needed by CPR. Your gift might be the only holiday gift received by a CPR bird waiting to be adopted. If you believe that every bird deserves a happy holiday, this is a wonderful opportunity to help!
Handmade Parrot Toys
Handmade Toys

This holiday season, please support CPR by purchasing safe, stimulating toys, handmade with love by CPR volunteers and sold by Parrot U to benefit the birds. Our unique handmade parrot toys are bird-safe, stimulate learning or foraging and will make wonderful gifts for your parrot. Don't have a parrot? Then buy one for your favorite CPR parrot. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the CPR adoption program.

There's one more Volunteer Toy-making workshop this year. Join us on Sunday, December 13, from 9 to 11 am if you'd like to help. Just RSVP to volunteer@companionparrots.org.

An Invitation to Volunteer

Sponsor or Adopt
Emma Jane

Looking for a unique and special gift for the holidays? Sponsoring a parrot is a rewarding way to connect with a special bird that you choose. Your gift will have special meaning to someone who cares about animals, birds or pet adoption.

Families or office groups can sponsor a special parrot in lieu of a gift exchange. Everyone can chip in a small amount and you'll enjoy the satisfaction of helping a bird in need at the holidays.

Your sponsorship donation will directly impact the bird you sponsor and help defray costs of ongoing care.
