We're Growing...Will You Grow With Us?
| |
By Leslie Wieser, President
CPR is growing and looking for people to grow with us. The many birds we
| Freckles, Available for Adoption |
are able to place each year are dependent upon people who are passionate about their welfare. This year, CPR has been extremely fortunate to have many new, talented people join our team and this has greatly contributed to our success. However, we have many more needs and must continue to grow our volunteer workforce. Every person in our organization is passionate about the welfare of our parrots and we know that there are others who feel the same way, but who simply have not yet contacted us. So now's your time.
We're looking for people to lead teams as well as for people to support those teams. Although our list of volunteer opportunities is long, we have several team lead positions we are anxious to fill, including Volunteers, Events, Fundraising and Education. If you're not ready for a Lead role...no problem. All of these leaders will need help. In addition to these committees, there are many other opportunities for people to share their talents and to become involved with our organization. Whether you have a couple hours or a day, we're sure there is some way you can support CPR.
The first step is simply to complete a Volunteer Interest Form and then we'll contact you. We welcome you to join us and experience the joy of knowing you've helped improve the lives of many homeless parrots.
Spotlight on our Visitor Services Team:
CPR is proud of its new team of Visitor Service Representatives. If you've visited on a weekend, you've probably seen and spoken with them. Visitor Service Reps not only greet visitors to Parrot University and introduce them to CPR and the birds, but they also get to spend some great quality time with our wonderful birds. These volunteers are all knowledgeable and friendly and we are thrilled to have them on our team.
Please contact us at volunteer@companionparrots.org if you have any questions or would like to help.

Meet Olive: Featured Bird for August
| |
| Olive, Red-Throated Conure |
Species: Red-Throated Conure
Age: Unknown
Olive was found outdoors in February 2014, so his age is unknown. Although the family that found Olive tried bird ownership for a year, they eventually decided it just wasn't for them. Olive is the first Red-Throated Conure to come into CPR's program and he is quite a beautiful bird. Olive lived with children and dogs in his most recent home. He likes to listen to classical music, mimic sounds, dance and have his head scratched. Watch video and help us find a new home for Olive.

Meet Maddie: Featured Bird for August
| Maddie, Yellow-Naped Amazon |
Species: Yellow-Naped Amazon
Age: 10
Maddie is a 10 year old, Yellow-Naped Amazon whose first home thought "she" was female. DNA sexing revealed she's actually a "he" but we aren't telling her. Maddie joined CPR due to his owner developing an allergy to her birds. Maddie's mom described Maddie as being "very cheerful, playful, determined and inquisitive. She loves to have fun!" Maddie displays clear body language and will politely lift one foot when he wants to invite a step up. He's also learned to turn around, wave and more. Maddie is seeking a special someone and will make a great companion. Watch video.

Summertime Tips | |
We hope that everyone is enjoying a great summer. This month, we're sharing some summertime tips, to help you keep your parrot healthy and safe.
|
Max, Available for Adoption
|
- Turn off ceiling fans when your parrot is out of the cage.
- If your bird's cage is next to a window or in a sunroom, check the room temperature in that area during this time of year to make sure it's not too hot, or consider moving the cage to another part of the house.
- If your AC fails, monitor your bird often for signs of distress or heat stroke.
- Never leave your bird alone in a car or without the AC running -- even for a few minutes.
- Never take your bird outside unrestrained.
- Even when your bird is outside in a sturdy cage or carrier, don't leave him/her unattended. And make sure they have water and some shade.
It's a great time of year for sunshine and spray showers, but take special care to always protect your feathered friends.

Bosley's Birthday Bash Was Lots of Fun!
Thanks to everyone who made it down to Parrot University to help celebrate Bosley's Big Birthday Bash on July 25. We had an amazing turnout with lots of new and familiar faces and generous contributions to help CPR continue its mission.
We appreciate each and every one of our supporters. A few birds received much needed sponsorships, we sold hundreds of raffle tickets and quite a few CPR T-shirts. Without your support, these incredible birds would have no place to go. Thank you.
We'd also like to thank the dedicated volunteers who generously donated their time and talents to make Bosley's day special. It takes a lot of people to put together this kind of event and our amazing team did just that. Thank you for all you do!
