There will be light refreshments for people and for parrots, gifts for the birthday bird and a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday around noon. Thanks to some amazing sponsors, there will also be some fabulous raffle prize giveaways with all proceeds going to support the birds of CPR. Prizes include gift cards from Mellow Mushroom Ballantyne, Trio Restaurant, and Hand & Stone Massage Ballantyne. Several gift packs will also be raffled, including ones from the Charlotte Knights, The Fresh Market Carmel Commons, and Parrot University. Raffle tickets are on sale now! ($2 each, or 15 tickets for $20.)
To help celebrate, Parrot U will be holding a special sale and we've added a 'Sex and the Single Bird' class on Sunday, July 27th as part of the weekend's events.
We hope you'll plan to join us to party with the parrots. Bosley will be highly insulted if you miss her birthday. She can't wait to see you!

Bosley: Featured Birds for July
| Bosley, Blue and Gold Macaw |
Meet Bosley
Species: Blue & Gold macaw
Age: 12 years
We simply have to feature Bosley this month. After all, Bosley's Big Birdie Birthday Bash is coming up on July 26.
Bosley, our "blue and bald macaw", is everybody's favorite. She's brash, bossy and opinionated. Just when you think you have her figured out, she'll turn all gooey and sweet and melt your heart. She's also shameless about flirting with women she likes, showing off her feathers and blowing kisses. And she's pretty consistent about NOT liking men, although she will lure them into her area so she can lunge at them. Bosley is available for adoption and seeking that special someone. Please watch some of Bosley's training videos in our Train Away article below.
Make sure you join Bosley for her big birthday party, but just don't ask her age -- southern belles never tell!

Petie: Featured Bird for July
| Petie, Congo African Grey |
Meet Petie
Species: Congo African Grey
Age: 12
Sometimes we just shake our heads, wondering why a bird hasn't been adopted. Petie's a good example.
She's incredibly well-socialized and interacts well with almost everyone. Petie also has a huge vocabulary. If you want to hear it, talk to another bird and you'll start to hear "You're silly! Yes, you are!" or "You're rambunctious!" or "Is everything copacetic?" This girl's got plenty to say - come meet her.
Watch Petie's video.

Sinbad: Featured Bird for July
| Sinbad, Olive-throated Conure |
Meet Sinbad
Species: Olive-throated Conure
Age: 20
This is the first olive-throated Conure that's joined the CPR adoption program. Sinbad is distinctive looking with beautiful eyes and she's about 20 years old.
Sinbad's been paying attention to the training of the other birds around her and is already working with the trainer on skills to help her succeed in her next home!
Watch Sinbad's video and come meet her.

Tip of the Month: Beware of Ceiling Fans
| Winston, Available for Adoption |
As the summer weather changes from warm to hot, we're more inclined to turn on ceiling fans to keep our homes cool. But these fans can also pose a real threat to both flighted and non-flighted parrots outside of the cage.
It's important to know that serious or life threatening injury could occur to the bird if he was to fly in to a moving fan, even if the fan is on a low speed setting. Be sure to keep your ceiling fans turned off when spending time with your parrot outside of the cage to avoid harm to your beloved feathered family member.

Volunteer Corner: Thanks to our Bird Mart Volunteers | | by Lynda Rettew
Sarah Coats, Stephen Platte and I represented CPR at the Bird Mart at Metrolina on Saturday, June 21. Thanks to the generous donation of used items from so many of our supporters, we were able to raise about $500 by selling these items "yard sale" style.
Sarah and Stephen are both wonderful at talking to people about our mission whenever possible. We handed out many cards and urged people to attend our free classes in order to learn more about working with their birds. Not only did we earn some much needed money for our program, but we also may have been able to have a positive impact on the lives of some parrots.
Many thanks to Sarah and Stephen.
Please contact me at volunteer@companionparrots.org if you'd like to help CPR.
