Summer School -- Parrot Caregiver Education

Interested in adopting a parrot? Do you currently live with a parrot and want to give them the best possible life? Then sign up for some free classes this summer, to increase your knowledge and your confidence.

Potential adopters are required to attend Parrot 101 and Avian Medicine. A third class, such as 'Sex & the Single Bird', may be required for some adoptions. Current parrot guardians are also encouraged to attend, to enhance the relationship with their bird and to keep up with the latest research.

Reservations are needed. Just send an email to parrots@parrotu.com or call 704-889-2325. All classes are free, and tax deductible donations to CPR are very much appreciated. Classes are taught by CPR board members, volunteers, Parrot U staff and local veterinarians.

Charlie's Angels: Featured Birds for June
Meet Charlie's Angels -- Bosley, Kate, and Jacquelyn

Species: Budgies

Age: 4 years

Somebody sure was a big Charlie's Angels fan, naming their birds after the actors! The funny thing is that Bosley seems to be the boss of this crew, just like in the TV show. Bosley flies to the hand in and out of the cage. Jacquelyn jumps on the hand and munches on millet and Kate is

the shyest of the bunch, but she's eating from the hand. This is a delightful little flock that will bring you much enjoyment. They must be adopted together -- we can't break up the cast!

Gipper: Featured Bird for June

Meet Gipper

Species:  Jenday Conure

Age: Unknown

This little guy is a charmer and an athlete. Gipper needs to be adopted with his best buddy, Poe, who watches over him. Both of them love men with facial hair and will be more than happy to preen your beard. Gipper and Poe are a wonderful pair that deserve a loving home.

Watch this video of Gipper running the obstacle course and see more videos of him learning the course on YouTube.

Savvy: Featured Bird for June

Meet Savvy

SpeciesAmazon

Age: 15

Savvy is one of the best-socialized Amazons ever! Just wait until you hear her laugh, do animal impressions, and talk a blue streak. This girl should be doing stand-up comedy! She's new to CPR -- come meet Savvy.

Bosley's Big Birdie Birthday Bash 2014

Ask anybody at Parrot U who the Queen B is and they'll tell you it's Bosley! Is it any wonder we gather to celebrate her birthday every year?

Calendar Photo
Bugsy, Pin-up Bird
Adopted in 2010

Would you like to see your parrot featured in the 2015 calendar? There are just a few spots left, so please act quickly.

You can sponsor your bird as a pin-up parrot of the month or as the cover bird. For a monthly page sponsorship, a minimum donation of $55 is requested. The cover position will be determined by bidding. Bids start at $100, with the highest bidder winning bragging rights for their bird.

Sponsorships cover all printing costs, allowing 100% of the money raised from calendar sales to support the birds of CPR.

If you're interested, please send your information (name, bird's name, species) to parrotcalendar@gmail.com. This year, we're making it very easy for you by taking the photos in your home (within 25 miles of Parrot U).

Pete, Available for Adoption

At CPR, we not only offer free Positive Reinforcement Training classes for caregivers, but we also work with the individual birds available for adoption, to help them become better companions and succeed in their next home.

Check out some of the training videos of the Birds of CPR. Behaviors such as step up, towel training and carrier training are so important to your bird's well-being, and tricks are a fun way to teach and interact with your bird. Enjoy the videos and watch more on YouTube!

Volunteer Corner: Share Your Talents
by Lynda Rettew

CPR is incredibly fortunate to have the skills and efforts of some wonderful toy makers. Our volunteers construct new toys to keep the CPR birds entertained and to help them stay healthy and happy.

Molly and Wendy Whitesides and Nancy Dene use their creativity to produce new toys every week. Lea Waller and the entire CPR Board thank you all so much for your contributions.

Do you have a special talent or skill you'd like to share with us? Would you like to help the birds and promote adoption? Please contact me at volunteer@companionparrots.org for more information.

Thank you for all you do.
