There are so many myths and misunderstandings when it comes to cosmetic procedures. The internet can be a wonderful tool; however, it is full of false information and horror stories of botched surgeries. In this month's newsletter, we'll try to clear up some of the myths we hear the most often.
Myth: Botox will make me look frozen! Fact: Done properly, Botox (and Dysport) treatments will look very natural and, if it is preferred, you can still maintain some movement. Some people prefer no movement, but it is a personal preference. You can maintain as much or as little movement as you'd like. It is very rare that a person will notice that you AREN'T frowning!
Myth: You can always tell when someone has had a filler treatment, and I don't want it to be noticeable. Fact: You can tell when someone has had a poorly administered filler treatment. There are a lot of people out there that get filler treatments and no one notices because it looks so natural. People tend to think you look "refreshed" or maybe you got your hair done! Dr. Schell is a true expert and artist when it comes to making people look natural.
Myth: If I get a chemical peel, I'll look like Samantha in that one Sex and the City episode! Fact: There are MANY different kinds of chemical peels out there, from zero downtime to 7 days downtime. You can pick the one that fits your lifestyle!
Myth: The Lifestyle Lift is new, cutting edge technology. Fact: The Lifestyle Lift is just a mini face lift wrapped up in fancy marketing terms. The mini face lift does not hold up for very long, and does not address the neck at all. Dr. Schell prefers straight facts versus fancy marketing terms that are only generated to attract business.
Myth: If I get an eyelid surgery I'll look like a deer caught in the headlights! Fact: Dr. Schell understands the need for a beautifully sculpted eyelid and can take years off a person's face by reshaping that area. Of course we all hear the horror stories about how someone's eyelids were done incorrectly, and that is why it is so important to do research on doctors beforehand. The deer in the headlights look can also be created by a poorly or overdone browlift.
Myth: If I have Botox around my eyes, I won't be able to smile. Fact: Botox around the eyes can remove the crows feet. It looks completely natural, and does not affect the ability to smile whatsoever.
Myth: Every facelift I see is bad! Fact: The ONLY facelifts you ever "see" are bad ones; you never notice the good ones. A facelift should be natural, that is the whole point! Again, this is why it is so important to research doctors first before getting a serious surgery like a facelift done. Always ask for before & after photos.
Myth: If I get my lips plumped I'll look like a duck. Fact: After getting a lip treatment there can be significant swelling for the first few days, giving a person the "duck lip" look. But that does subside. You can get as much or as little as you want injected to create a very natural lip or a very pouty lip.
Myth: CO2 Laser Resurfacing will make my skin look white or bleached out and leave an obvious line on my neck. Fact: CO2 Laser Resurfacing does not remove all color from the face. It is designed to remove sun damage, hyperpigmentation, age spots, and wrinkles, leaving behind beautiful, natural, youthful looking skin. Dr. Schell usually recommends that people treat their face, neck, and chest because most people tend to overlook the neck and chest area, and there can be a significant amount of sun damage in those areas.
Myth: Artefill will migrate and move around after it is injected. Fact: Artefill absolutely does not migrate, in fact the beauty of Artefill is it is exactly the opposite! It stays put right where it is injected and you grow your own collagen in the areas it is placed. This is why it is considered the longest lasting filler on the market, lasting around 10 years or so!
