Greetings!

December is a hectic time of the school year.  There are many distractions for students:  schedule disruptions, weather, new sports seasons starting, holidays and vacations...the list goes on.  Keeping focused on school during December is tough!  Check out the article below for helping your student maintain focus.

With all the activity, it's important to keep the holiday season in focus in another way:  by remembering all that we are thankful for.   Instead of a list of "wants" for Christmas, we have a list of "thanks" this holiday season.  Check out our list below!

Holiday Thanks from Knowledge Edge

We're here for parents and students--that's our bottom line. Here are a few things our parents have expressed thanks for recently:

"He is so happy with his scores, and we can't thank you enough for all of the work your staff did to help get him there. I will be singing your praises to everyone I know. Thanks!!"  This particular student went from a 27 on his practice ACT test to a 33 on the October 2013 ACT.

"We can tell that what she worked on over the summer at KE has paid off, and we are glad that we have decided to keep her in the program alongside the school year. This week she had to write a paragraph using some of the spelling words. Normally, this is an extensive project to guide her through.  By the time we checked back with her, she had written a 4 sentence paragraph by herself, with her own ideas. It may not seem like much, but it is HUGE compared to what we went through last year and she was so proud of herself!"  This is from the parent of a 4th grader.

Thanks to DSHA student Maggie Hannigan and CHS student Spencer Alascio for appearing in our video to personally attest to how Knowledge Edge's ACT prep helped them succeed on the test.   Maggie will be heading off to UW-Madison next year with help from Knowledge Edge and the time Spencer put in over the summer on ACT prep allowed him to achieve his goal score in September of his Junior year.

Thanks to a community member who shared this comment:   "It is so good to have a quality institution just around the corner from us."

Thanks to Cedarburg High School and Grafton High School for having us administer a practice ACT to their students at no cost. The ACT will soon be a key statewide assessment for all high school juniors whether they plan to go to college or not; we're glad to help these schools improve student achievement.

Thanks to our outstanding tutors who bring their knowledge and passion to every session with your students.

And thanks you to, the parents who trust us to work with your most important gift, your children!

Help Your Student Stay on Track in December
The holiday season brings many good things that we're all grateful for, but the frenzy of activity can sometimes wreck havoc with schedules and homework.

By this time, students are long past the review part of the school year and are earnestly learning new material so they can't afford to miss a lot of days or become distracted.

Parents can do a lot to help keep kids on track.  It doesn't take a heavy hand...a strong sense of organization, a little holiday cheer and a sense of humor will go a long way. Parents often have their own holiday stresses, but keeping the kids on track will help everyone better enjoy the season and that much awaited Winter Break!  Check out this article for specific ideas!
All Children Can Learn...even Math?

Yes, all students can learn, and can even learn math. At a time when STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education is a high priority in our country, the resounding answer is YES!

Because math is cumulative, students who miss a step somewhere along the way or don't solidify their understanding of basic math facts can be hindered as new concepts continue to build on what has already been learned. Read more....
