Greetings!
October is an important month for students! The PSAT and practice ACT tests are given at area high schools, parent/teacher conferences are held in some districts and as the weather cools, students end the post-summer review and begin new learning in earnest.
What can parents do to help their students this month?
1. Think about how much sleep your kids are getting. Check out the attached article about new research that suggests teens fare better on less sleep than previous studies may have indicated.
2. Plan for parent-teacher conferences. Is your child off to a good start this year? If your conferences are late in the Fall, contact the teacher sooner to get feedback BEFORE the 2nd quarter is well underway. Take advantage of our offer for a FREE assessment on a weekday when there is no school because of conferences, professional development or whatever! See info below.
3. Sit down with your junior and plan the best time to take the ACT or SAT. There are numerous factors to consider...page down for more details.
We look forward to helping your student have a great year!

THE ACT-SAT SEASON BEGINS
Many high schools will be offering their juniors the opportunity to take a practice ACT test this month, along with administering the nation-wide PSAT-NMSQT test for juniors and Explore and Plan testing for 8th graders, freshmen and sophomores.
What's the best test for your student? As noted at left, both college entrance exams will be offered numerous times during the next 9 months. Click here to read an article that discusses both the ACT and SAT and their pros and cons.
When should your student take the test? Some schools suggest a date they will administer the test, but the best answer is choosing a date that works best for the student. The attached article suggests why.
Can we afford test prep? Consider that a few points can translate into scholarship dollars. A quick search of scholarship calculators reveals that a few ACT points can mean thousands in scholarships- more than enough to cover the cost of a preparation program.
Many students today end up taking remedial courses in college--classes which are expensive and do NOT count toward graduation. Focused test preparation identifies areas of weakness and builds student skills that extend far beyond just the test and translate to higher achievement.
Knowledge Edge prep for the ACT or SAT is individualized to the specific skills and needs of the student. We build skills as well as helping each student to develop a test-taking strategy that is his or hers alone. For more information, click here!
