The Source:  Commodity Updates
Your source for learning how weather and other conditions across the country and the globe affect the quality, availability, and pricing of your fresh fruits and produce.

ALERT: Strawberries California growing areas received rain today. This would be a good thing, however the Mother's Day pull begins next week. (The Mother's Day pull is the biggest foodservice pull of the year for strawberries.) Quality issues will include: bruising, water damage, light decay, mold, white shoulders, and green tips. Expect these issues even from the best labels. It will take 7 - 10 days for the plants to recover from this rain. Order only what you will need as strawberries will not hold up like you are used to. We will make every effort to accommodate your orders.

Stone Fruits - Apricots are now available with good quality. Peaches and Nectarines should be available next week. Plums will be later.

Local Availability
In a Nutshell: Our long winter has delayed our local season and our cold, wet spring has resulted in production being several weeks later than usual (just like last year). Over-wintered produce such as cilantro, spinach, leeks, parsley, and kale have had a bit of a rough time over-wintering this year with lower volumes than normal starting to become available. Leeks and parsley have been particularly hurt. Most farmers didn't get started in their fields until about 4 weeks ago, planting spring greens, lettuces, and other cool season crops between cold snaps. From Bill Walker, NJ Dept of Ag. "Jersey Fresh" report.

Now Available:  Spinach, Cilantro, and Mushrooms.
We're forecasting...
Last week of April/early May - over-wintered items, Dandelion Greens, Spinach, Leeks, and Herbs.
Early May - Asparagus and Lettuces.

More than Veggies!
