Personal Money Planning's Newsletter
May 28, 2016

Thanks for taking some time out of your weekend to open our newsletter. This time, I share some tidbits about submarines and the folks who spend time on them (like I did years ago).  Next are links to the recent Personal Money Planning articles in the Times Record News. Take a look at all the information the folks at Eaton Vance compile about the economy in the Market Monitor. We wrap it up with a link about the history of Memorial Day.

Have a great weekend!

Memorial Day and Ice Cream

With Memorial Day weekend here, this ex-bubblehead (an old insulting description of a submariner that we submariners now wear proudly) who is particularly fond of ice cream wanted to share an interesting article about leadership in the submarine service. I think those of you in management might find some lessons to apply, and most of the rest of you might just be intrigued to learn a bit more about what happens deep below in the oceans blue. Click here for the Forbes article from June 2015.

As a side note, on the submarine I served on we only had true ice cream in port--just not enough freezer space to take any with us. But we did have a soft-serve machine. Of course ours never quite worked right and that soft serve didn't harden into something you'd put on a cone. It came out more like a gloppy mess that wasn't a half-bad vanilla shake.

Oh, and the wax-coated eggs mentioned in the article. Trust me, you can eat them after more than two months--or at least we did. They were, admittedly, a little strong of smell with an interesting tint that looked green under the fluorescent lights.

Ah, the memories.
