Personal Money Planning's Newsletter
November 7, 2015
Gary Silverman, CFPThanks for taking the time to read our e-newsletter. This time, I share just a bit (and not more than I'm allowed to) about the submariner experience. As always, we have links to my recent newspaper articles. Finally, I share a report about the state of our states in the Money 101 section, and a little information about QE.

For those in the Wichita Falls area: Remember, next Friday, November 13 is the Wichita Adult Literacy Council Spelling Bee!

Also, mark your calendars for December 3. We will be having our annual end of year tax update and market review seminar. More information coming soon!

Have a great week!

The Secret Submariner
Gary Silverman caricature We ex-military types tend to have a favorite place that we consider almost "home" during our military service. For me it was the first submarine I served on, the USS Henry L. Stimson, SSBN655. While it now exists as pieces of scrap metal around the world, the Stimson was launched back on November 13, 1965. I wouldn't see her until 1980 and was on her for about 2 years. In honor of this 50th birthday for the old gal, I give you a little ditty I found on a submariner blog.

"Yes...on the sub I was on we did do some of the stuff we did, and we didn't do some of the other stuff we did, because if we did do it, it was secret...so we didn't really do it.
Even though we really did. But not really.
Those medals me and my shipmates got that we didn't get for doing what we didn't do that we did...I really got those. Except not. But, yeah.
That's because we never went where we were, so we weren't there where we were.
And even though we weren't where we were, we did do the stuff we didn't do while we weren't there, not doing it.
As far as what boat we were on when we didn't go there on it, and didn't do the stuff we did while not doing that either, I'm not supposed to refer to that either.
So the bottom line is that while we weren't on the boat I won't mention, not doing we were doing where we weren't...we didn't do that either.
I hope this clarifies things. I really was a submariner."

P.S. For those of you interested in what really was happening underwater (and might still be happening) back during the cold war, I suggest the book: Blind Man's Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage.
