This week Wichita Falls was the location for a Governor's Small Business Forum. The packed room received great information about the state of our city for new business and education opportunities, as well as ways to keep ourselves motivated and successful. One of the speakers, Bill Graham reminded us that being likable and compassionate are critical for staying successful in both business and life. The keynote speaker, Joe Theismann, also discussed success in work and life. For example, he said you have to embrace change. He certainly learned all about that after a quick end to his Superbowl-winning career with the Washington Redskins because of a injury on the field. (Tina made the mistake of looking this up on YouTube. Don't do that if you have a weak stomach.) Theismann also discussed how his success on the football field led him to be self-absorbed and forget about the importance of a team. While being carted away after his accident, 55,000 cheering people reminded him that he wasn't alone. The incident may have humbled the ex-quarterback a bit, but he certainly holds on to his bravado, evidenced by the good-nurtured jokes about the old Dallas stadium in a room full of Cowboys fans.
