IN THIS ISSUE:
Personal Money Planning's Newsletter
April 11, 2015
Gary Silverman, CFPWelcome to our newsletter. Some of you are new, thanks for signing up!

This time, we are sharing some information about how some of the bigger investment firms get so big. Where does that money come from, anyway?

We also have April's monthly market monitor, which takes a look at economic trends and the like through March 2015, as well as our standard review of my Times Record News articles.  I'm not the only prolific writer in the office. Michelle has her own blog, FixOurBudget.com and was recently profiled on a popular money-saving website, The Penny Hoarder. More about that here.

Have a great week!

Gary Silverman, CFP®

Does your broker know where your money is leaking?
Gary Silverman caricature
While the following article link is written to people in the investment industry, I thought that some of my readers might find it interesting. After all, you know the broker-dealers like Merrill Lynch and Edward Jones make money, but do you know how they make their money?

I'm guessing that most of the brokers who work for these firms don't really understand all of the ways the daddy firm siphons off of the income or principal of their clients' accounts.

If you read the article you'll see the term "bps" which stands for "basis points." A basis point = 1/100 of a percent. Thus 10 bps of a $100,000 investment would be $100,000 x 10/100 x 1% = $100.
