SEMINAR INFORMATION (For those of you in the Wichita Falls area):

On March 31, April 2, and April 7 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the MainStay Suites (formerly Lexington), 1917 Elmwood Avenue N., Wichita Falls,  I will take part in a fantastic series of seminars. Read on for more information:

RSVP by calling our office at 940-692-6885

Come to all, or come to one or two.

PART ONE: TUESDAY, MARCH 31

Attorney John Lane will lead the first discussion on March 31. His presentation has two objectives. First, he will discuss the important aspects of estate planning, and conclude with a presentation about Texas NFA gun trusts:

  • Wills: who needs one? What kind?
  • Advantages and disadvantages of Durable Powers of Attorney
  • Do you really need a Medical Power of Attorney?
  • What you need to know about Living Wills/Advanced Medical Directives
  • Guardianships and your estate plan
  • Gun owners: A gun trust may benefit you and your family from harm that an improper transfer or possession may cause.

PART TWO: THURSDAY, APRIL 2

On April 2, attorney Dan Campbell presents "Essentials of Medicaid-Asset Protection Planning." During his time he will cover:

  • How much of your assets can be protected if your spouse is in a nursing home or if there is only one person
  • Protecting your homestead, farm, ranch or other business
  • If you can gift your assets and still qualify for Medicaid?
  • The Irrevocable Intentionally Defective Grantor Trust. Sounds scary, but it's really good for you!

PART THREE: TUESDAY, APRIL 7

Wrapping up this series on April 7 is Gary Silverman, CFP®. He will help you make sure your money lasts as long as you do:

  • When should you draw social security?
  • What part, if any, should stocks play in your retirement portfolio?
  • How do you avoid risky investments and hold on to more money?
Hope to see you there!

No costs? Maybe there's more to the story
Gary Silverman caricatureThere are a lot of investments out there that seem to have no costs associated with them. Well, at least no obvious costs. Annuities can be one of those areas. But if there were no costs, then how do insurance agents make any money and the insurance companies afford to name buildings after themselves. This article by Michael Kitces looks at how the system works.

A little spring humor...

Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a flat tire.

Much to their relief she smiled and said, "Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper."

Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said: "First question: Which tire was flat?"
