Gary Silverman, CFPIt may seem too cold for many outside activities right now, so take advantage of it. Cook some comfort food, snuggle up with a good book. Or better yet, take a good look at your budget. This week was America Saves Week. How much more can you save?

Next week begins Caffeine Awareness Month, so pour a hot cuppa joe and read about that here.

Have a great week!

Come rain, sleet, or snow (sometimes all at once)
Gary Silverman caricature We had a frozen start to the week here in Wichita Falls. What's nice is that even though it was treacherous to venture out on the roads Monday, Tuesday and Friday (the police just about begging people not to drive), our staff was putting in a full day.
I know, you're thinking that they are either crazy coming into work or that I am a cad for requiring them to. Fortunately neither are true. For many years we've ensured that just because someone isn't in the office our clients' needs wouldn't suffer. Thus, while still snug in their homes, all of our staff was putting in a full day's work through remote computer access. This same ability also helps when, say,  our family members are sick and need some TLC,  or when we are too ill to come to work and spread germs, but healthy enough to get to the computer. And since our employees go off for advanced training, this also gives them the ability to handle any pressing matters you have even if they are 1000 miles away.

Money 101:
Emergency Savings
It's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" you will need to access your emergency savings. So, how are you doing with it? If you are like most Americans, not so great. According to a recent study, most wouldn't be able to cover one month's expenses with easily accessible money, like what is found in a savings account.
Get started with your savings. Hint: the first step is to figure out where your money is going in the first place. Read more...
