January 31, 2015
Gary Silverman, CFP This is it, the last day of January. In a few days, a rodent named Phil is supposed to tell us how the rest of the winter will pan out. I'll stick to the local weather forecasters.

Thanks for taking the time to read our e-newsletter. We have a link to some good information about IRS scams in the Money 101 section.

Until next time, have a great weekend and enjoy the Super Bowl!

IRS calling? Probably not...
glasses-lady-stare.jpg Phone scammers acting as if they are calling from the IRS and demanding payment have cheated nearly 3,000 people out of over $14 million! Know that these scammers have the ability to alter caller ID numbers to make it look like they ARE calling from the IRS. Don't be fooled; know the signs. The IRS will never call to demand immediate payment, call about taxes owed without mailing a bill first, or require a specific tax payment method (such as a prepaid debit card). Read more here...

Ready for football?
Tomorrow is the Super Bowl. Since you are probably sick of "Deflate-gate", I found a more general football joke to celebrate the day. Enjoy.

Football sounds like it's invented by an eight-year-old girl. 'Like, all right, here's the deal, there's a ball and you get four tries to take the ball ten yards. In between each try we're going have a huddle and we're going to tell secrets about the other team. By the way, we're all wearing Capri pants. At half time the Black Eyed Peas are going to play.'
