As I'm writing this it is a day after word came of the Malaysian airliner being shot down over the Ukraine. At this moment both sides in the conflict blame the other. In another part of the world Israel began a ground campaign in Gaza while rockets continue to launch. Both sides blame the other. The human tragedy in both events is very real and no matter what side is at "fault" it points to some of the worse qualities of mankind.

The stock markets of the world did what markets do when things look crazy in the world-they sold off...only to come back again then they realized that the world, while crazy, isn't coming to an end any time soon.

And meanwhile, my home of Wichita Falls got some desperately needed rain yesterday. We're nowhere near over the drought, but we are closer than we were a week ago.

Let's hope for less missiles and more rain next week.

Customer Service Quandaries

Gary likes his summer routine--- an annual meeting with some folks in Dallas combined with a nice dinner at the same restaurant and a stay at the same hotel every year. This year, however, he had a chance to experience the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to customer service.

Final Thoughts
What's so special about July 19?

  •  It's the 200th day of the year (if this was a leap year, it would be the 201st day).

  • In 1848, it was the start of the two-day Women's Right Convention in Seneca Falls, New York.
