Good news, bad news
The other day, someone remarked that the market was doing so well he didn't expect to see a major setback for quite some time. While indeed there is something  to be said about market momentum (the tenancy for an up market to keep moving up), that's just what things looked like before the financial crisis. In the 50 trading days up to the start of the market slide on October 9, 2007, fully 12 of them were days where the market was up over 1% (which is big). Let's just say that momentum works until it doesn't.

This is okay news. That's better than not-okay news:
At the end of May the number of people employed in America finally got above its pre-crisis high. We were at 138 million jobs January 31, 2008, dropped to 130 million 25 months later, and are now back again. However, the unemployment rate is still higher as there are more people in the potential workforce now than then, and even that doesn't include those who gave up trying to find a job.

Final Thoughts
Happy Father's Day

For the occasion, a few jokes from Boyslife.org:

A small boy was at the zoo with his father. They were looking at the tigers, and his father was telling him how ferocious they were.
"Daddy, if the tigers got out and ate you up..."
"Yes, son?" the father asked, ready to console him.
" ...Which bus would I take home?"

"Dad, are bugs good to eat?" asked the boy.
"Let's not talk about such things at the dinner table, son," his father replied.
After dinner the father inquired, "Now, son, what did you want to ask me?"
"Oh, nothing," the boy said. "There was a bug in your soup, but now it's gone."
