My recent trip

Well, I'm back from Boston. Didn't know I was going? I don't tend to announce trips in advance...it makes things safer at home. That might make me a little paranoid, but in my business a little paranoid is a quality trait to have.

I was at the IMCA 2014 Annual Conference. Never heard of IMCA? It's the Investment Management Consultants Association. Since I'm a guy who consults with folks to manage their investments, it's a good fit.

While I didn't learn anything earth-shattering , it did give me the opportunity to dig further into current research on how to make retirement portfolios last longer with less risk...something my clients would appreciate. There have been several surprising results from studies over the last couple of years and this was my opportunity to listen to the different sides of the issue from the people who actually ran the studies. Even better, they were available in the hallways for further discussion.

As the last day of the conference lasted only to lunch, but with no way to get back to Wichita Falls in time for the last flight in, I was able to play tourist and see the USS Constitution and the USS Cassin Young. Being both ex-Navy and always interested in military history, both ships combined to give me many hours of exploration, education, and reflection. Blood was spilled on both ships by men protecting our nation.

Final Thoughts
And finally, from the Kid's pages of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a joke:

As two caterpillars were crawling along, a butterfly flew overhead.
One turned to the other and said,
"You'll never get me up in one of those things!"
