MAY 18, 2013
Howdy!
Gary Silverman, CFP
Before we know it, summer will be in full swing. Maybe it's time to work on my own swing--at the golf course (see below). Also in the newsletter we have the Monthly Monitor so you can take a look at how the markets and the economy are shaping up (or down), as well as links to my recent Times Record News articles.

Is there something in particular you would like to read about in these newsletters? Drop me a line, and maybe you'll see a  future snippet (or article) inspired by YOU!

Remember, there's an  Open House Curling Event  today (May 18) at the Ice Training Center, 522 Centennial Blvd. in Richardson, TX. You can come from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm or from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm . The cost is $25 at the door, go to www.dfwcurling.com for more information.

And, in case you missed it on my Facebook page, science shows you how to  understand what puts the "curl" in the curling stone. Take a look...

"So you golf?" is one of the most often heard questions for new people visiting my conference room. They see my collection of golf balls on the wall and assume I'm an avid golfer. As of  this writing , I think I've played one game in the last two years.

At the conferences that I go to, some of the most common items given out to lure people to the vendor's booths are ball caps, coffee mugs, and golf balls. I used to collect all three, but I began running out of room. Now, I just save the golf balls.

I do play golf, so the extras have a use. This is especially true as I'm a truly terrible golfer and tend to lose several in a game. Though rotten, I am a rather happy player. After all, I expect all of my shots to go either a tiny distance forward or a long distance sideways...often in the direction of any water present. So when I hit a miserable shot, it meets my expectations--nothing to cry about there. But if I hit a fair, average, or (on rare occasions) good shot, then I am overjoyed.

Sometimes having low expectations is a good thing.
