Money 101
APRIL 20, 2013
Howdy!
Gary Silverman, CFP
This time, I share a few thoughts about  the recent (and still evolving) stories out of Boston, as well as my recent articles and the latest market monitor.

Like you, I  was shocked when I learned about the bombings at the Boston Marathon. Well, maybe not shocked, as terrorism is a part of our lives, but certainly surprised. As I am writing this, I am watching television reports of the younger bombing suspect being taken into custody. However this is not over. I pray for the healing process (when possible) for the victims, their families, and friends. I pray for the police, FBI, and other investigators, that their work continues to be productive and that justice is served. I pray for the emergency personnel, both professional and bystanders, that their healing from what they saw, smelled, and heard may start. And mostly I just pray and let God fill in the words.

 Now for my diatribe.

Looking back at my various news feeds from the last few days, I'm seeing a trend. Those news tidbits closest to the events in Boston are filled with errors. Some will say that this is just the fog of war. But while this seems to have abated a bit lately, I count on journalists to be the types of folks who vet the information handed to them, get confirmation, and if that fails, state clearly that a report is unsubstantiated and may later prove to be wrong. I expect that officials of all types, especially my elected ones, to be less in a hurry to get their faces on television, and more dedicated to getting us accurate information. And I expect we, the people, to take a breather and pray, reflect, and hug, than to demand answers that can't be answered so soon after an event occurs.

Yes, I know that if I expect all of this I am going to live a life filled with disappointment.

FINAL THOUGHT

Sometimes a little joke lightens the mood. Here's a little something for your Saturday.

Q: How do you know that carrots are good for your eyesight?
A:  Have YOU ever seen a rabbit with glasses?

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
