Howdy!

In this part of the country, and many others, spring is a good time to be reminded about how to stay safe during stormy weather. As a matter of fact, next weekend in Wichita Falls will mark the first "Wicked Weather Weekend" event which is open to the public and teaches how to prepare and recover for frightening weather events such as tornadoes. It will be held April 12 and 13 at the MPEC. With safety in mind, it's a good time to make sure your identity is safe and secure. This newsletter includes a few items to help you out in that regard. Another thing you can do is make sure your unneeded personal papers are disposed of properly (in other words, destroyed). Locally, Paper Pig Shredding is hosting free shred services. At all events you may bring up to 3 boxes or 3 bags that you can physically carry. All material will be shredded on-site for free. I hope you can take advantage of one of these events, or something similar in your area. - Graham, Saturday April 6th, 9am-2pm. At the Chamber of Commerce (in coordination with Keep Graham Beautiful Day and the Graham Chamber of Commerce)
- Iowa Park, Saturday April 6th , 9am-noon. At the old Walmart parking lot with the Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce
- Electra, Saturday April 13th, 9am-noon. At the State National Bank parking lot with the City of Electra
- Wichita Falls, Saturday April 20th, 9am-noon. The annual BBB Secure Your ID Day at the Better Business Bureau office, 2107 Kemp Blvd. Co-sponsors are the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and WFPD.
- Bowie, Saturday May 11th location 9am-Noon TBD with Bowie Chamber of Commerce
- Archer City Saturday May 18th location TBD 9am-noon with Archer County and the Sheriffs Office.

Gary's Soapbox:
Don't be stupid, check your credit
You know that you should be checking your credit report. I know that you know you should be checking your credit report. Every newspaper, magazine, financial newsletter, news broadcast, and talk show has told you that you should be checking your credit report. Yet the majority of people do not do it. Frankly, if you are not regularly checking your credit report, you are being stupid (yes, I just called many of my readers stupid...get over it). If you are being stupid, consider this your wake-up call. If you have smartly checked your credit report then this next part will help you optimize your checking.I'm cheap. I like to find ways to do things free if at all practical. Without paying for a credit monitoring service, here is how I monitor my credit report throughout the year. The first thing I do is to go to www.AnnualCreditReport.com. This is the official access point by the big-three credit reporting agencies to access you once-a-year free annual credit report. The thing is, I don't check them all at once. Instead, every four months I go to the web site and pick a different agency. Here's my schedule:January - EquifaxMay - ExperianSeptember - TransUnionThat way I'm keeping an eye on my credit report throughout the year without paying a dime for it. Pretty much everything in my life shows up on each agency's report. Even better, I'm married. What's marriage got to do with it? Well, if you've ever wondered why you married your spouse, here's the reason-more free credit reports. So I interlace my credit reports with my wife's:January - my EquifaxMarch - spouse TransUnionMay - my ExperianJuly - spouse EquifaxSeptember - my TransUnionNovember - spouse ExperianNot everything that is on your credit report is on your spouse's, but 1) they should be checking theirs anyway, and 2) all of the joint stuff will show up on both. Not married? Sorry, that's a topic for another day. (For the record, there are many wonderful reasons why I enjoy being married to the lovely Joanne. More free credit reports is just one of them.) There you have it, the cheap guy's way of monitoring your credit. So stop being stupid.
Here are the three main credit reporting agencies:Equifax800/525-6285PO Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374-0241Experian888/397-3742PO Box 949, Allen, TX 75013-0949Trans Union800/680-7289PO Box 1000, Chester, PA 19022 --Gary

FINAL THOUGHT
One of the first items sold on E-bay was a broken laser pointer. It was listed as such, and when the founder of the company contacted the winning bidder to make sure he understood it was broken, the buyer responded that he collected broken laser pointers.
